HoneyRoastHoax
LoyalRoyal22 This is the one position in the team(left back) where we literally had no options. So my point is we had to sign a left back, surely if the club have the financial power Anton has stated we could have signed a young decent left back for a good fee , especially as we been scouting Europe all season. This is just a short term move.

Oh yeah because signing an ageing Jason Roberts was awful for us wasn't it?

He's in the champ team of the year you fool.

Yeh and he will only benefit us for one season. I thought we were building for big things. Stop trying to convince yourselves you are totally happy with this signing. I am content but not happy.

So by a panel of experts he has been judged to have been the BEST LEFT BACK IN THE CHAMP, we sign him and you are :|

You sir are mental. Its about getting to the prem, we can buy again when we're there but having names like WB will attract bigger names.

You do remember who we played in the prem don't you?

Can't really lose out by offering him a 1 year deal, especially after his performances last season? Team of the year ffs?

Short term, yea maybe, but this signing signals our ambition to bounce back at the first attempt. And that is all we can ask for you moany toads

So we should have a team of 22 year olds? See how that works out...

I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a younger guy to be Bridge's understudy, and tbh there are few left backs out there who would be better to learn from.

International-class defender in a position we needed filling, who showed last season he's still got it, and has the qualities needed in an adventurous full back. His performances for Brighton got him into the TOTS, and to a man their fans are all gutted to lose him.

Not only does he do our promotion hopes the world of good, it's also a significant sign of intent, especially when you consider he walked away from the QPR negotiations and wouldn't have had a shortage of offers from elsewhere.

I am totally convinced that I am totally happy with this signing. Ta.

Kelly at right back - Bridge at left back - Mariappa and Morrison in the middle

Thats one hell of a defence we're gonna have next season  8)

Yep, that's a pretty strong defence for the Championship.

Well it makes a change. It's always the defence in past seasons that has been the problem - minus promotion winning last time around - Gorkks & Pearce were superb.

Great mixture of experience and raw talent coming from the back, with two excellent keepers to choose from too. Shows fantastic ambition, and hopefully this will be an equally great season to remember.

Great signing and the damage it will do to Redknapp's state of mind makes it quite delicious.

Wages: Harte, Shorey + Mills out ≥ Bridge.
Quality: Harte, Shorey + Mills out ≤ Bridge.

No long term affect if it's just a year, probably with something to keep him if we go up.

Therefore, +1 from me.

Maybe (hope it's the case, btw)

But Redknapp is just making a fuss so he has a tailor-made excuse to leave. With all the resources he's had - and to some extent still has - whingeing about a free transfer he didn't get doesn't really add up.

I just wish all his media chums would stop their pandering to him, publishing every trite soundbite he throws their way as if he's some sort of demi-god. It's all so nauseating.

Great signing and everything, but still remember him most vividly for a truly horrendous performance for England in the Steve McClaren umbrella game against Croatia. Still, should be a good piece of business, interesting to see whether we sign another left back as well or rely on Cummings/Kelly for cover.

If we signed Mapps now it would be a similar coup I'd say. Aside from that, fair enough.

Both of them together in the side along with the experience of Kelly or a decent Champ attacking fullback in Gunter (who is unleashed with playing with McCleary) alongside Morro should really help him develop.
