SC's forte seems to be defensive organisation, and us trying to score
on the break. Not that different from how we got promoted last time,
except I thought we got lucky with too many chances missed against us.

if the above is right we need serious speed up front. like Appiah's,
Long, Kebe at his best. I think McCleary is still not back to his best
and I'm not sure if he can ever get back there

Clarke could do with focusing on our ability to centre. It's diabolical.

Only Norwood has better than 30% accuracy for crosses out of him, Obita, McCleary, Gunter, Robson-Kanu, Mackie, Taylor, Kelly and Blackman. Half of the others are less than 20%!

Less than 50% accuracy from corners.

It's pathetic. Not particularly helped by frequently having one, maybe two players in the box, but still.

Can anyone recall an occasion our top scorer finished with less than double figures? oxf*rd hell, even Asaba got 11 didn't he?

It really makes you wonder what the hell they work on all week. It's obvious to everyone in the ground that despite the fact that we seem hell-bent on getting the ball wide (a perfectly good attacking option), the subsequent cross either gets blocked or is too often just awful.

Obita and Robson-Kanu often don't earn the right to cross. Neither do enough to create a yard of space and too often end up drilling the ball into the man standing directly in front of them. They both seem to lack the confidence to really attack the full back and pull central defenders out of position. On the rare occasions they do, it does create real goal scoring opportunities.

McCleary does the first bit and creates the space, but too often over hits the cross or scuffs it too low and it gets cleared by the first man. We saw both variations last night.

It seems fixable, but we are seeing the same thing week after week......

melonhead

and nor do i

And nor do I. He's neither good nor bad - he merely exists. He certainly shouldn't be picking up a premiership wage. My point is, is that he is currently our ONLY striker. Without him you, oh i dont know, play HRK up front on his own. Or Blackman. We have so few options atm, we need to give somebody a try. He MAY have a good season in him. Pogrebnyak hasnt- hes proved that 3 times. But, as others have alluded, if Clarke doesnt rate him - then cut him loose. I just hope we have enough resources for a new striker or two in the closed.

We've been God awful from corners since Harte left and even then it was always to the back post and knock it back across. We tried a lot of different routines yesterday but our players refuse to shoot, and when they do it's always off target, so nothing ever came of them.

Obita and McAnuff put in some good corners last season, though the quality varied quite dramatically at times. That's the really frustrating thing, we saw Obita can cross from in play or set piece last season, but this season he's just hit it into his marker, too long or into the first man more often than not. And it's not like anyone attacks any cross that is successfully swung in.
