wingnut Folk need to remember that TV stations are massively regul8ed over the amount and frequency of ad breaks. Having "blipverts" is, I think, not allowed.
Also, football highlights will be restricted by the contract with the football league and the TV company with the live match rights. Both will limit how much of each game C5 are allowed to show - that's why there's so much "filler". C5 want to get as much airtime filled as cheaply as they can given the restrictions on advertising and the minutes of match highlights they're allowed to show.
That said, a studio audience and fans' opinions are terrible ideas.

they have the so called 'blipverts' in the cricket between overs....

Public service broadcasters (which C5 is - lol) have different obligations/rules to satellite broadcasters. I'm not sure whether blipverts are allowed or not these days (used to count as "subliminal messages" which were banned) but they'd still count towards the overall limit on minutes per hour of ads.

On a slightly different note, hasn't it been proven somewhere that subliminal messages have absolutely no effect on anyone, and therefore do not need to be banned anymore?

Why would I want to watch two people standing around watching football excerpts on a 24 inch Sony Bravia through my 24 inch Sony Bravia?

blueroyals The format hasn't really ever worked. ITV had a crack, then BBC and now C5. It just doesn't work. You can't pack 3 leagues of football into a 90 min show and still have decent analysis/engagement.

A broadcaster needs to come along and admit that the audience for L1/L2 highlights is low enough not to warrant screen time. Show the Championship highlights with a MOTD type format and move the L1/L2 highlights to online only.

I don't want analysis/engagement.

I want action and goals.

I don't mind a player/manager interview afterwards.

Why do I need to tell me what's happened in the match? I'm not retarded - I've just watched it.

You were doing well until the last sentence.

Agreed - in my ire I omitted the words "a so called pundit" from this sentence.

I'm a dick.

No, subliminal messaging is certainly effective. Its potential applications in advertising are real but somewhat limited - few people will be convinced to buy a car by subliminal messages from Volvo, but they could be convinced to buy a Volvo instead of a Ford.

Soccer Am had gotten absolutely horrendous lately. I think Saturdays show was the worst yet. Horrible.

Soccer Am went downhill when they moved it to Sunday mornings, replaced Helen Chaimberlain with Simon Rimmer and ditched the football in favour of cooking and celebrity interviews. If it wasn't for Tim Lovejoy you'd think you were watching an entirely different program instead.

Very disappointing.

It is very 'bitty', is less informative than I had hoped and I am sorry to say this but Adam Virgo looks like fish out of water.

By the way all you 'Clem fans'. He has been slotted in to MOTD2

He is also the Football League "expert" for Final Score. Which basically seems to involve him reading out goalscorers in games that you've already seen appear on the vidiprinter 2 minutes beforehand without offering any other kind of analysis or point of interest.

I contacted Channel 5 suggesting their new show was 'not up to scratch', this was their reply....

Date: 14th August 2015

Dear Correspondent

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Football League Tonight.

We were sorry to read that you were unhappy with a number of aspects of the 8th August episode. As you may know, this is a new programme on Channel 5 and it is not in our interests, or indeed any broadcaster's interests, to alienate viewers. However, we all provide mixed schedules and, inevitably, there will be a dissonance of views about the content, format and presenters of our programmes. Nevertheless, we do appreciate the concerns that have been expressed by viewers and some changes to elements of the format of future episodes are likely to be made.

We are grateful to you for taking the time to let us know how you feel and have noted your complaint for the attention of all relevant personnel.

Thank you for your interest in Channel 5.

Yours sincerely

......looks like a generic reply so I guess they got a few other emails on this topic
