What I hate most about this situation is the fans from other clubs looking in and saying, oh they're just 1 point outside the play-offs what a ridiculous decision, without watching us they don't realise the performances have been shit, we've been going downhill since the October international break and Clarke showed he wasn't here for the long term with Fulhamgate.

People going for Pearson, why?

Leicester fan still rave about the work he did thereduring both stints. He knows what it takes to get promoted. Less of a punt compared to many.

Who do you want and why?

I don't know, see if you can guess from my post? As for why, he did a cracking job at Preston and Everton and only "failed" at United in so much as he didn't manage to win 12 titles. He's available and any WCBAP nonsense is just that, our current board can afford him and if they have any ambition they should spend as required, not get an emotionally unstable manager, just because he's the cheaper option

Call me crazy, but after managing one of the biggest teams on the planet and a side in La Liga, I am not sure if Moyes would find us appealing.

Not sure the sacking is really much to do with the fans. Seemed like everyone at the club was upset with Clarke's lack of commitment shown so early on in a contract after so much support for his mission was afforded to him.

I reckon our owners were surprised he decided to stay and probably didn't want him to. Results and fans just gave them the out they needed.

Would have supported him staying until the end of the season if it wasn't for Fulhamgate but that plus poor results and management decisions mean for me, his sacking is a good thing.

Pearson for me, I think he's unfairly tagged with a bad reputation due to the fact he got on the wrong side of the media last season, but he's very popular both at Leicester and down here in Southampton so I don't think he's the devil that he's made out to be.

His Leicester team played good, fast, direct football both in winning the championship and staying up last season, and he put together a good squad that is now doing excellent things in the league this season. Personally I think most of their good form this season is probably down to Pearson and Ranieri has just fallen into a job at the right time, but that's a different conversation.

Bringing Coppell back would be the wrong move, and some people really need to move on. I could probably get on board with Brian coming back just because he's a genuinely excellent bloke, but I don't think either the club or he would go for it, and that's perhaps for the best.

As for other options, the rest of that bookies list is quite dispiriting so I'm pinning my hopes on Pearson taking the job.

windermere_royal Once again the baying mob get their wishes. will all be quiet again until they get their teeth into the next victim. careful what you wish for. these things have a nasty habit of coming back and biting you on the arse.
Not sure I like what my team is turning into

One win in eight, talks to a lower placed Championship club about a move there, decided we are the "better option for now", loses majority of the fanbase, loses the board's support, and clearly the players; and you seem to think we may have jumped the gun in wanting rid? The board have acted reasonably swiftly, giving the new man time to bed in and have a transfer window to get us back on track! I'd say they nailed it tbf - fans and board!

Bad form since October eh? That's 2 whole months!

You're point would be more valid if you said those looking in from afar don't realise how much backing he was give by the board in the summer only for him to try to get a job elsewhere as soon a it came up

Yeah and the ones from December to May, plus August. Lets face it, he had one good month after signing an entire new eleven.

I saw that, but that's a wee bit unrealistic.. meanwhile, back in the real world..

This.

Moyes would be unbelievably fantastic. Maybe not big enough for Man United but he's bigger than RFC by a long way. If he wants the job, which I doubt, he'd be by far the best realistic candidate.

Thankfully neither of the Nevilles are available.

Moyes would be best, but unlikely. Pearson acceptable.

Zammo Hopefully that'll see the end of Beasant as well. Worst goal keeping coach in RFC history. Never known our keepers to make so many mistakes.....and that includes Simon Sheppard.
Some of that might be down to the keepers themselves.

And I still don't see a pro-Clarke poster coming back at the argument that it's not about him just honourably trotting along for a chat with another, better club like any professional is entitled to do - it's about him considering abandoning a project when it has barely started, after being given tremendous support in overhauling our club, for a job that is barely any better than the one he had.

End of this season? Fine.
Man United/Chelsea etc? Fine.
A premier league team? Fine.
Half way through his first complete season after a summer refit to his specifications for a club below us? Twattish.

TBM Bit pissed off that he turned Fulham down now - means we have to pay him off instead of receiving any compo
When Clarke turned them down, Nigel Howe should have been on the phone to them and said "offer him more money to tempt him and in return we'll let you have him and his coaching staff for free".

They have to recognise that whether they agree with the reaction it made his position untenable when combined with such poor results.

If he'd got some decent performances and another point or three in the games since he'd have a job and it would be being forgotten.

His out due to piss poor management.
