SpaceCruiser I can't really say I'm terribly excited about this. For obvious reasons. I'll be hoping we sign somebody of a better standard later this summer.

Fae isn't a Frenchman by the way, and neither is Sonko.

Your desire to sign someone of a 'better standard' is presumably based on not knowing anything about the standard of this bloke ?

What would it take to get you excited though ? Bear in mind players with 4 legs and a tail are not on Coppell's shopping list.

And are you volunteering to tell Sonks he's not French ?

Stranded More importantly, we've signed a Frenchman Spacey - you must be pleased.

You mean another Frenchman surely?

Don't think I've ever seen this guy play so I'll be interesting to see how good he is.

Is it a sign of things to come? A move away from a predominantly young British side as we can't afford the silly prices for 'local' players and we see more and more foreign imports filling out our first team.

It's our first step in overtaking Arsenal - sign lots of French players!

Over my dead body!

A bonus!

He wouldn't have a problem with being Senegalese, surely?

So have you actually seen him play then? Otherwise you have absolutely nothing to base that statement on (not that that's stopped you in the past)

h+P I suggest we boo him now, Seol must be getting bored of all the motivation

Lazy french shit... never scores... too many yellows... definitely a prime candidate for motivational booing...

He's staked his colours to the mast of being a French footballer though.

I suspect he is still proud of his place of birth.

Maybe Sidwell replacement. We need someone with more technical ability in midfield.

Hoop Blah
Huntley & Palmer I thought our team was already full of foreign imports?

I'm talking British/Irish as 'local.'

With that in mind this seasons first XI contained 8 local players. Obviously a few other options for selection would possibly take that down to 4 or 5.

I like the fact we have a local feel to the side and have done quite well getting the best out of local players and spotting/developing young talent.

I'm failing to see much of this development of young local players you talk about, unless you count Shane Long or Doyle

Then he has no problem being called a Senegalese then.

Harper, Sidwell, Shorey these were young and local when we signed them.

Also, apparently he is Malian so he could be away for the African Nations Cup

They were already developed by previous clubs, I would say Shorey is the only one we could probably lay claim to. Harper and Sidders were kids at Arsenal

As I said I'm talking of local as being British/Irish, so by development of players I mean the likes of Murty, Shorey, Harper, Sidwell, Doyle, Kitson, Lita and Hunt and Long.

All of those have developed with the club over the years and are now better players than when they came to the club. Obviously being in the top flight means we have to bring in players that are better and more like the finished article and can't invest five years of first team football into making players perform at a higher level. I just hope we can maintain some 'local' feel to the team and continue to bring players through to some extent.

The addition of another black player to the squad can only be seen as a step in the right direction.

How can he be from Mali if he was born in Orleans, France?

I think this could be a good signing potentially. If he has the silky skills of a continental player it will go some way to helping us keep the ball as we gave it away too easily last year. A lot of the stats showed we did not have a lot of possession from where I watched the games in my local pub.

Same as Harper can come from Ghana and Kitson from Ireland
