Uke Myself, I thought Shorey was by far one of the most hard working and effective players on the pitch this season. His tireless efforts and devotion to the cause clearly demonstrated why he is worthy of an England place cruelly denied him by playing for a low profile team.

If a higher profile team were to spend six million or so to buy him they would instantly have additional value added to his price when he receives the call up. He is also easily one of the best defenders to have should they somehow be dragged into a relegation dog fight. He could save them 2 million in the future.

I just can't believe that Shorey isn't already an England international. His immaculate performances this year, precise passing skills and tenacious tackling make me think he will be an England captain sometime in the future. I expect a bidding war to develop between Man Utd, Chelsea and Barcelona and the fee to reach as high as £25 million.

He's probably thinking the same thing.

Shorey's not thinking that - He knows it!

His agent has shown him the evidence.

West Ham will stump up £4m for (technically) England full-back Nicky Shorey

Daily Mail says that Sunderland are interested in taking George Mc Cartney back from West Ham (presumably he is trying to build an All Irish team hopefully to include Hunt) which means that West Ham will be looking for a left-back,surprise,surprise.
About £3million I reckon or £1.5 million and we get Mullins and Zamora.

A straight swap for Zamora would be nice, but I guess we couldn't pay his wages.

I'd want more than that for Shorey. Good left-backs are hard to find (as we will find out).

Plus, would Zamora be a regular starter for us? Would he start over Kitson and Doyle? I'm not sure he would. Thus, we would have traded our starting left-back for a backup/squad player on high wages. Not sure how that improves us.

Agreed

Zamora is toilet....

Around 4 Mill would be reasonable for Shorey given his recent form tbh.

Whilst it may not be Zamora, I am sure that there will be a WHU player involved in the transfer of Shorey, if it goes ahead. Curbishley is looking to offload a number of players, so he'll probably offer some of the duffers up to Coppell - and Coppell will go for Mullins !

We've been linked with Mullins and Zamora more times than I can count, I expect to hear their names mentioned again.

Lets just look at West Ham's offer as the start of the bidding process

4 million plus local boy Mullins...

Then Shorey can go to East End obscurity

I'll wish him a happy retirement. He and we have enjoyed our best years together.

It does make me LOL @ how bitter RFC fans are when a player decides to go on and further their career. Whatever is said about Shorey and Sidwell about their contract situations etc, both of them will end up in the Premiership playing for clubs with far more ambition than us.

"Far more income than us" would be a fairer comment.

What are West Ham's ambitions for next season? Survival?

So, er, exactly the same as ours would be in the Prem.

It's about money. End of.

dont think it ever soleley about the money-

why would any player of any note wish to spend his footballing life at a backwater club that isnt going to win anything

say what you want about sids-he gave it a go at a club where he could have won the premiere league, the champions league and both cups-didnt quite make it, but youd end up just regretting it if you didnt even at least try

Sorry to disagree - but it is absolutely all about money. If you offer enough, anyone will play for you. Just don't expect them to necesarily earn it.

I'd imagine that was this season, hence the mid table finish and coasting of their players from February onwards. West Ham have a far better chance of pushing for a League Cup win or top 8 finish than we could have. They simply have a better squad, better ability sign players and more willingness to invest in their team

You never know JSC, they could be next year's unlikely success story and finish 9th, or they could have a catastrophic season and collapse to, er, 11th.

Bring on the Championship - a league where more than 4 teams have a chance of getting in the top 4.

On the other hand, fair play to Shorey for moving to the Premiership if this does go ahead - who here would honestly stick around at Reading for a reduced wage? Slightly disappointing how he performed last season and it doesn't reflect on him as well as it did on Sidwell, but no-one can complain about him moving. Let's hope Curbishley wakes up thinking it's February 2007 and pays over the top for him.
