cmonurz Hang on - Cardiff can also get 87 points, and don't have to play Birmingham. So we could win our remaining games and come 4th.

No. We get 87 points and so do Cardiff, Brum and Sheff Utd, our goal difference leaves us in 2nd place. Unless one of them goes on a run beating teams 4-0 and 5-0 every game whilst we only scrape 1-0 wins for the rest of the season.

and then we win our three playoff games - which is what I thought PEARCEY was referring to.

But if we beat Sheff Utd, they can't get 87 points can they!!!As we are all aware if Wolves win tomorrow, then we remain only 3 points behind Brum...all we have to do then is beat Utd and match Brums results until we play them.....hoping that Cardiff/Utd don't keep winning!! Simple!!

Not quite.
If we were to win all our remaining games Sheff Utd cannot catch us. Brum and Cardiff could only equal our points totals but our goal difference is so much better than Brum and Cardiff(and in all likelihood would remain so if we won all our remaining games) that we would finish second. I suppose we could still finish fourth on goal difference but it would need some massive wins for Brum and Cardiff on a number of occasions for it to happen and for us to have narrow victories..

That was my point.

Tbh I'm just a bit fed up hearing how 'it's still in our hands' when we can't string two good performances together, never mind win six games.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we only won 3 of them and still went up, such is the inconsistency of the top teams.
