rhroyal Feel a bit sorry for Peschisolido with his comments. A big club with a team in the Premiership not long ago. In reality it'll be our reserves with probably less than 5000 fans there.

Not sure about the reserves part - BR seemed to take the cups fairly seriously at Watford so you never know. Plus, being his second "proper" game in charge should mean that there is still competition for places.

Number, Brendy, numbers

7 teams in Europe get a bye to the 3rd round.

The 3rd round is made up of 32 teams so that requires 25 to progress from Round 2.

25 teams to progress from round 2 require 50 teams at the start of Round 2 i.e. the remaining 13 Prem teams plus 37 teams from Round 1.

37 teams progressing from Round 1 would mean Round 1 would have to start with 74 teams - there are only 72 teams in the Football League.

See the problem?

Therefore, the 50 teams making up the start of round 2 are made up of the 13 other Prem teams, the "best" 2 relegated clubs and 35 teams from Round 1.

35 teams progressing from Round 1 would mean Round 1 would have to start with 70 teams - the remaining clubs in the FL .

On the rare occasion that 8 clubs qualify for Europe (i.e. via the Fair Play league) there is no requirements for two of the relegated clubs to get byes in Round 1.

T.R.O.L.I. Dump draw.

That is all.

As T.R.O.L.I has slated this draw, might I venture how pleased I am with it 8)

At home so I don't have to travel too far, ten quid to get in surely and we will win with consumate ease.

Don't get me wrong - I can see the positives - just would rather have had a cheeky close away trip.

Glad we haven't got Shrewsbury or Gillingham away (Ipswich and Plymouth have IIRC).

Not bad draw & at home but not sure about the ease of the win!
Embarrassing banana skin if we're not careful.

Ridiculous comment. You haven't got a clue what team BR will play.

After years of Coppell treating the cups disgracefully I am hoping (and believe) Brendan will actually try and win them. He may well play some fringe players for Burton, but to be honest at that early stage in the season he will still be looking to find his best side, so I expect it to be core players with a few others given a chance to impress.

Surely there should ALWAYS be competition for places? I'm hoping that is the case under the new regime anyway given the loyalty shown to certain players in the previous one...

Darlington V Leeds live Monday 10th August (7.45pm)
Bury V West Brom live Tuesday 11th August (7.45pm)

I thought there might have been a chance of Burtons first League cup tie being televised but seems not.

If we'd been at Burton it would have been a shoe in, with us at home they'll be anticipating a comfortable home win.
