Matthew Mills Becomes Tenth New Signing For Forest

Out of all the targets for Nottingham Forest this summer, the transfer of Matthew Mills from Doncaster Rovers has proved the most difficult to secure. But Vital Forest has today learned, that a deal to bring the highly rated Centre Half to the City Ground, has been completed.

Mills will be announced as the tenth new player to join Billy Davies and he'll be seen as one of the key signings for the club. The fee is set to be announced as undisclosed, but we expect it to be in the region of £2.5M.

The 23 year old joined Rovers, for a club record fee of £300,000 from Man City in 2008 and has gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders outside the Premiership. The Reds' beat off competion from WBA for his signature and he will be a major part of the redevelopment of the team. This is yet another statement of intent from the club and shows that we really do mean business next season.

The defender made a great name for himself in the Championship last season, drawing comparisons by some to Colin Cooper, and several clubs have been in the chase for the centre back including other Premiership teams including Wolves & Birmingham, but it is believed that Mills had set his heart on a move to the Reds, long before any fee was agreed and had let it be known to the Doncaster hierarchy of his desire to further his career on Trent side.

Mills made 45 appearances for Rovers last season picking up 7 yellow cards & 1 red in a campaign that saw them keep 10 clean sheets in the league (13 in all competitions) which played a massive part in their survival, with doncaster being the lowest scorers in the league (42), they needed a rock at the back & Matt Mills was that rock which is why they have tried so desperately to hold onto the player.

Welcome to the City Ground Matt, Now, where's our left back?

Astonished, shocked, delighted, hard.

A deal rising to £2m then I assume. I can't see us shelling out that much in a one off payment.

Unless you are Real Madrid very few clubs do, I would imagine it could well be a guaranteed £2m but paid over 2 or 3 seasons say £1m now, £500k next summer and the summer after.

Looks a bit of a beast.

But no complaints - astute cherry-on-top signing granted.

Plan Papereyes ftw

This sounds excellent, 23 as well so loads of room for improvement. Championship experience, sounds like a good player, they've really pushed the boat out to try make this happen. Hopefully they can sort it out over the next day. A striker has to be the next move, something similar would be spot on.

If Mills signs and he hasn't yet then we looked strong defensivley. A good striker up-front and we should be highly competitive this season.

superb signing

great to see us pip some big clubs to the deal, and great to see real prospects coming here

to be honest though, if it all falls through due to medical, or terms, we'll look very daft
and harking back to the good old coppell days of "dont say a word till th edeal is done"

but that aside, im really happy with this

as evryone else and their mum has said, if we shift out hunty for nugent ill literally wet myself

ZacNaloen
Ian Royal if he signs be interesting to see whether he come straight in, and if so, whether Gunnar or Cisse misses out in the defensive role. Outside chance of Harper there I guess.

I imagine Cisse and gunnar will share it, Gunnar is the better player but doesn't have the legs for every game as we all know.

From what I've read on the Donny forums, Mills hasn't had a full pre-season under his belt, so he may be lacking a bit of fitness/match practice, so i'd still expect Cisse to start Saturday.

Hunt for nugent is never going to happen, why do people insist with this?

Portsmouth have no strikers.
