The argument, if there is one, is that he wasn't perfect and his mistakes (which are understandable) are the reason he's still with us and not been taken from us like our previous best players like Doyle and Sigurdsson.

His "mistakes" being, according to this thread, putting in a cross after a 90 yard run that led to a goal only for some reason that isn't enough for Reading fans because it didn't directly lead to a goal. Even though there was little else he could do. Honestly, the mind boggles.

Errmmm, are your forgetting the two sitters he missed as well as various other (and I repeat understandable) mistakes where he miscontrolled, ran the ball out or misplaced his cross/pass and made the wrong decision.

These are examples of his general inconsistancies which make him not as good as the other players mentioned, or are you now saying he doesn't make any mistakes and so is their equal and is just playing for us out of love for the club?

Just to be clear, I'm not saying he didn't play well. I'm not saying he isn't our most creative player when he's playing at his best. I'm saying that his errors against Leicester, against the backdrop of a good performance, perfectly showed why he's still with us and not earning 2 or 3 times as much in the Premier League.

You're not the only poster on this thread Hoop Blah, so don't think i'm directing all my comments at you.

But no, I don't think he's perfect. He has well documented limitations. But then, no footballer is perfect so if people want to come on the internet after he's had an absolute stormer and start picking apart every tiny little imperfection in his game (the cross that resulted in Hunt scoring for example, which wasn't even a mistake  ) then I reserve the right to sit here slapping my palm against my forehead and wondering if it's only Reading fans who are such complete nonces.

I love Kebe and one of the reasons is for performances like Saturday. Yes he missed 2 or 3 sitters but some of his skills and runs alone made the entrance fee worthwhile. Was also the reason why I was a big fan of Matejovsky. The wonder pass would make up for all the cheap give aways.

Maguire This board never fails to make me roll my eyes and smash my head into my desk.

Why on earth are we arguing about or even suggesting that Jimmy Kebe was something other than superb? He's just totally unplayable on days like that, yet apparently we're finding something to moan about after he's sprinted the length of the pitch, rinsed a couple of players and crossed for a goal?

You bunch of utter helmets.

royalexile Yeah but he has always had the inconsistency. Both frustrating and endearing.

's why i love him

when he on teh ball its always 50:50 whether he'll do something gobsmacking, or hilarious.
probably the most consistently entertaining player ive seen play for reading

I agree with this. When Jimmy's on a roll no one knows what's going to happen next. Not even him, I suspect. It may be a super goal, it may be that he falls over the ball. But you never know what to expect. marvellous stuff.

Yes, similarities with one Shaun Cummings.

That's why he stuns all defenses across the land. Even Rogers book of Tic Tacs couldn't cover our Kebe.

+ 1
The guy is playing with more confidence enjoyment and desire than I have ever seen - he gets the crowd on their feet each time he gets the ball. He is lighting up every game he plays
And apparently this is not enough

Written off by who? The club has sent him out on loan - not yet disposed of him. Usually when they loan a player it is to help him develop, so maybe they haven't written him off quite yet?

Who said it wasn't enough?

If you read what I've posted I've said he had a good game but that some of his play showed why we've been able hold onto him despite him looking a class act at times.

I wonder how much some of you can actually read whilst maintaining a sense of perspective at times. Highlighting a passage of play where he didn't get everything right isn't being critical or pulling apart his performance, it's just pointing out a flaw/mistake which is why he's at this level.

It's typical HNAism. When we've won anything that isn't gushing praise is evil negativity.

intelligent commentary with some perspective isn't allowed.

Kebe had a superb game, but as you say, utterly fluffed two shots at least and put in a relatively weak cross.Leicester's indifference in tracking back may have helped Hunt be able to burst onto that ball unopposed and put it away. The ball was meant for Long and didn't have a hope of reaching him without a defender error. The speed of the break, plus Long's proximity meant the defender fluffed his clearance to Hunt, so the ball was good enough, but it wasn't good.

Anyone thinking that is an argument that Kebe didn't play extremely well is a bit weird in the head.

And there wouldn't be a lot of point in HNA if all anyone ever did when we won was gush enthusiastically about how brilliant we were.
