Some glowing reviews here

Alongside glowing reviews of Jay Emmanuel Thomas.

I live near Highbury. Arsenal fans have no idea what they are talking about.

Near Highbury?

Some people have no idea of their surroundings.

Do you have any idea how far The Emirates is from Highbury ?

Cripple Creek Given that Barcelona are rumoured to be interested in him (Source: BBC a few weeks ago) he must have something going for him. Doesn't necessarily mean he will be right for this team though. While we are in great form I'm not sure what Inesta and Xavi would make of playing for a team like Reading - baffling probably.

Think the beeb just dug this up tbh

Mmmm...yes, agreed it's probably nonsense. Although strange things do happen, Jamie Lambert was once being monitored by Arsene Wenger after a spell at Monaco if I remember correctly (playing - oh, okay, training alongside - the likes of Jurgen Klinsman and George Weah). God, that's reminded me, Lambert what a wasted talent.

From his wiki page: 'Afobe made a goalscoring return for the Reserves in a 5-0 win against Norwich Reserves on February 21st, entering the field as a first half substitute. Afobe also missed a penalty in the match'.

Well he'll fit right in then won't he?

Why is it automatically assumed Afobe is here because of a lack of faith in Simon Church? Le Fondre was anonymous at Peterborough and could just as easily be the reason.

By definition it's a lack of faith in Simon Church. It may be a lack of faith in ALF as well.

Also Afobe can play on the wing, the signing could thus be cover for Kebe and Mcanuff.

Just had this from a Huddersfield fan:

He has strength beyond his years and can hold on to the ball well. Has pace too but unfortunately lacks in front of goal.

“As soon as I knew of Reading’s interest I didn’t even think about the other clubs. I spoke to Jack Wilshere and he said I should come here.” said Benik

Why speak to Jack? What does he know of Reading?

Arseblog this morning

Meanwhile, two of the most promising youngsters at the club have gone out on loan until the end of the season. Chuks Aneke joins Preston North End in League One, while striker Benik Afobe has joined Championship side Reading.

Afobe is interesting, he's not garnered the kind of hype and expectation that others have, perhaps the injury this season has kept him hidden away a little bit, but he is rated very, very highly indeed.

Moving to a club like Reading, who lie second in the table and will be pushing for one of the automatic promotion spots, will provide him with a good chance to impress and an opportunity to play meaningful games which will only aid his development. This is a team looking to get into the Premier League, there'll be pressure and expectation in every game, the same way there will be at Arsenal if and when he makes the breakthrough, so let's hope he can do the business.

And by all accounts his talent is matched by his character, he's a down to earth lad and will know a good spell at Reading could secure him a place in the first team squad next season. It seems like an age since we've had a striker come through the ranks too, so fingers crossed for him.

Because Wilshere borders Berkshire to the west.

“I feel like this is the beginning of the season for me and I feel sharp,” added Afobe, who is the third fastest player at Arsenal over 40 metres – behind Theo Walcott and Laurent Koscielny.

Just be good to see another player who can keep up with Kebe when he hits teams on the break!

FiNeRaIn Even the BBC talk shite sometimes. Im sure he's a great prospect but talks of someone who was on loan at huddersfield last season attracting interest from barca...nonsense.

Yeah quite, just like when James Lambert attracted interest and a spell training with Monaco

Not forgetting that Lambert spent a week or two at Blackburn when Dalglish was manager.
