Wimb Thoughts of Handbags now up on TTE

http://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/201 ... g-thrashed

Typically excellent summary from HH.

While I'm still very much in the camp that believes things will come good under NA given time and patience, the potential for significant unrest amongst sections of the fanbase was clear to see yesterday.

It's the modern way. If everything isn't perfect at all times then it's time to call radio phone-in shows saying the manager has lost the dressing room and other cliches, and call for him to be sacked.

The way football is covered now demands stories whether they exist or not, and speculating that a manager is under pressure is an easy one focus on. Sacking are news. Not being sacked is not news, unless it can be spun out into a "manager hanging on" story.

The media also now presents sacking the manager as the only logical solution so completely that it's little wonder so many fans join in. In today's instant gratification society patience has become a forgotten word.

Rebuilding a team, especially changing the style of play, is not something that can be done in two or three months. It's more likely to take two or three seasons. We were hardly inspiring under McGhee or Coppell for a good couple of years either.

It's not just what's happening on the pitch old boy, it's all the other aspects surrounding the club that compounds the effect and strength of dissatisfied feeling.

That said, there are people I'm acquainted with who just haven't warmed to Adkins. One in particular, on reaching Reading station and seeing him at 10pm last night, said he enjoyed the 90 minutes. One more nail in the Adkins coffin apparently...

LoyalRoyal22 Adkins didn't dig at the fans. Your all turning it into something you want to hear.

Exactly

Big Foot Well I'm happy after that result and performance as I want Adkins out, so it was a shame that Wednesday couldn't give us the real thumping we deserved. 5-2 flattered us (from what I saw - left at 4-1 down).

Who would you bring in as manager then?

I wonder, are people so angry because they think we derserve to be in the Premiership again next year? We don't.

I'd rather have Joe Kinnear than Adkins.

In theory we have cover in every position except LB -if we were to go out and get three or four players in January (apart from LB) we would have a squad that is way to large with a number of passengers -who we cannot offload as nobody wants them unless they take pay cuts.

Are we going to see Lwood, Gorks,Roberts, Drenthe,Taylor,Cummings make much of a contribution this season -to match their salaries ?

Following Saturdays horrendous defeat-normally you would expect four or so changes-but NA simply has no one to bring in

MR. CYNICAL Alarm bells were ringing when Morrison was names captain for the first game of the season.
He's out of his depth, everyone seems to blame Pierce but his form has only suffered since having to play alongside Morrison in my opinion.

Agree to some degree, I do not think they can both play together. It reminds me a bit of Mcanuff situation when his form dropped as captain, BM kept him in. Hope just because of fact Morro is captain, it does not make him immune to staying in

That's who I think were main culprits for each of the goals conceded

5th goal laughable, simple lay off on the half way line and Fryatt was allowed a challenge free run from inside his own half , you wouldn`t see that your local park

Yep was a shambles. If our centre backs lack pace (which they both do), they need to at least be spot on with positional play

I thought we played some decent stuff 1st half and after 15 mins I thought they were there for the taking. Then, a series of shambolic defencive errors gave the game to them..
Kelly, Pearce and Morrison were hopeless all day. Not 1 of their goals was a well worked goal. Only Antonio's was any good but even that was because Paerce and Kelly were scared to tackle him.
At 3.1, we miss a sitter which could well of changed the game. Instead, goal 4 and 5 came with yet again clueless defending. I can't comment on the last 20 mins as we left after goal 5 and was back in the pub in the City Centre before the game had finished.

Good day out. Considering me and my mate looked at each other and laughed after goal 5, I obviously am starting not to care as much.

Not sure he had much choice tbf. Sounds like Mariappa made it pretty clear that he wanted out.

Liverpool vs Suarez hasn't worked out too bad for them.

I've never bought into this 'I want out' shit. A player who doesn't continue to put himself in the shop window won't get the move he wants, and he'd have been a big asset in the Championship this season playing for the bigger deal he obviosuly thought he deserved. Very short-sighted to have let him go.

If only all players thought like that (ala Sidwell) but there's been far too many examples of players wanting out and just dropping that performance level the extra couple of percent to the point where it's just not worth keeping them around. The player knows the manager usually won't gamble by playing him and therefore he's just judged on what's come before.

It isn't if he didn't want to be at the club. In some circumstances the club has no choice.

Boss laments five conceded

Manager Nigel Adkins was left desperately disappointed by the defending that saw us concede five goals away to Sheffield Wednesday.

Before today's game, only four teams had a better defensive record away from home, but the Owls put five into Alex McCarthy's net on a day to forget.

Adkins said, "We gave poor goals away and that got their tails up. I think for all five goals we had possession of the ball, collectively, some of the individual errors in the goals, you can't expect to achieve anything conceding goals like that.

"There were a few questions asked of us today, particularly defensively in the second half, but we've come up short of them, it's a heavy defeat and hard to take. I've learned a lot from the goals that went in and individuals losing duels."

The Royals put in a real Jekyll & Hyde performance, we played some good stuff going forward but were left exceptionally open at the other end. Indeed, the first question in Nigel's press conference asked how we lost a game that in the journalist's eyes we looked like winning for long periods.

The boss commented, "I'm glad you've said that, because when we've lost 5-2 it's hard for me to say it. I thought we started well and in the first 20 we were going to do something. Then we gave it away and they scored. Then we did OK again, gave it away again and they scored again, Antonio's got too much freedom on the run and scores from distance.

"We got one back from Pavel - who was outstanding and worked really hard - then we gave it away again, and they scored again from a ricochet.

"So at half time we're 3-1 and still thinking we can win the game, if we could keep a clean sheet and nullify the stupid mistakes we'd made. We should have had a penalty, we had a couple of chances, Hal from Gunter's great cutback. That would have made a difference but the result is everything. The second half deservedly belonged to Sheffield Wednesday.

"I'm sure people will be saying, 'hang on Nigel you got beat 5-2' when I say the first half performance was alright. It's about goals, goals change games and they've got a thumping victory. We know we must do better and we start again on Monday morning.

"It was not to be our day but you learn a lot about each other's character in a second half like that, a challenging period, they deservedly went on from there."

Asked if the first two goals in particular disappointed him, he said, "No, it was all five. There were poor goals, shocking goals, but I won't highlight individuals in the press. We'll talk about it in the dressing room and I've already spoken in there.

"Listen, a 5-2 scoreline is not good for anyone and I'm not hiding behind anything. It's unfortunate for the supporters who travelled up, there weren't many of our fans here but we appreciate all of them."

The boss explained his decision to take Danny Guthrie off, saying, "I took Danny off at 5-1 which is a hard one because I've got one eye on next week. He's very influential but is on four bookings so I want to make sure he's available for Queens Park Rangers. You could see someone getting riled at that scoreline and getting a yellow card."

Lastly, asked if he would move on quickly from the result, he said, "We won't be brushing today under the carpet, there are things there to be addressed and that starts Monday. We'll regroup and be ready for the next game. We'll analyse it properly which is the best way forward, sometimes you can say things in the heat of the moment which are wrong.

"Sheff Wed have got good players and an excellent manager, as I highlighted before the game, and well done to them.

"I can look back on the performance, it's all ifs buts and maybes, but at the end of the day we got trounced 5-2."
