facaldaqui
winchester_royal You are wrong, he was sold to Ipswich that summer.

He was injury-prone, but it did not put us off our stride. I remember long periods without Forster but no big deal was made of it. Good management should ensure that we always have replacements to come in, including at left back. And centre back, come to that--Adkins is talking of Baird playing there if another CB is injured (sent off is more likely in Gorkss' case). But then where would our defensive midfield come from? Oh for a Gunnarsson.

Really? I remember there were long periods in Coppell's early days where we looked toothless without a Forster or Kitson leading the line.

I always felt we were making progress under Coppell, albeit slow at first.

By the way, I am very in favour of giving Adkins plenty of time. I just do not buy the philosophy that we are not allowed to judge him in the meantime, for this, that, or the other reason. Sorry, but if his team puts on a performance that bores the arse off me, I am going to moan. I am paying to be entertained, not to waste my money for x number of months until various players are back. I am actually reasonably tolerant of reserves, if they are entertaining to watch--you can throw on a Mathieu Manset, a Thomas Cywka, or a Percy Freeman any time you like, as far as I am concerned.

melonhead any team that comes down from the prem will regress.
they have to.

you just cant maintain squad quality moving from the prem to the champ

Not too sure that many would agree with that.
In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this is just about the central issue within the Adkins/McDermott debate.
All things like injuries being equal, on the face of it, Adkins has a stronger group of players than Brian had in a higher division.

I actually think we did maintain squad quality. (Given that Kebe and Mariappa had the hump, they were no loss in practice.) The trouble was that that squad quality was low and has continued to be low. This lot could hardly win a game in the premiership, why should they become a winning team overnight? I said this at the end of last season when lots of people (kids?) on here started talking about us romping the league.

Mariappa was f*cking mince, m8.

And both he and St Kebe hardly feature for a Palace side which is beginning to make Reading 12/13 look like Real Madrid :!:

He was able to run a bit faster, but don't think he was a better defender

We have a had it too good for a long time and have had to come to terms with the Adkins one paced, one dimensional, negative and pretty boring to watch style of football this season.

That said you never know what Xmas will bring, new signings, a win, entertainment, goals or better still a new manager to sort it out.

We've had it pretty good for the last 15-20 odd years.
Sir John's tenure has seen our club develop beyond recognition.

The old boy had done his bit, wanted out, and sold out to someone whom he thought would take the club onwards. It's now looking possible that he has been sold a pup, and in Adkins' defence: so has he. It's all very well to be in a job interview giving a vision of how the playing style will develop, but ultimately, you have to have the personnel to implement the new system. If the existing staff are either incapable or unwilling to do this, then the manager knows that he will require the support of the owner to acquire players that can.

We may well see movement in the transfer market in January, but I suspect that movement could well be players going out, rather than coming in.

Players will have go to out before too many more can come in, we are still subject to the championships version of FFP.

It doesn't really matter how rich Anton is, over spending results in fines which is hardly an ideal extra cost.

How many of our best 10 league positions have come in the last 10 years? It's 7 isn't it? 10 if you go up to the last 20 years?

We haven't finished below 9th in the second tier for over a decade. Whereas prior to that run we'd finished above 9th in the second tier once isn't it? In about 125 years?

Oh the pain and disappointment from our continual poor performance.

Yep, good old Brian McDermott.
Never should have sacked him.

Can't see us doing any better than we are now under him given what a chronic shambles we were at the end of his tenure. And then of course there's his legendary good starts to the season to consider.

Chronic shambles seems a tad strong :?:

We were losing every week with an inferior side which was not given the best chance to succeed given our circumspect transfer dealings, BMc in a three-way blame there with Hammond and - ultim8ly - the owner.

You big bully :!:
