Whitlock's name sprang immediately to mind as being possibly the worst player. I seem to remember he did eventually improve, but it was too little too late.
Neale Cooper's been mentioned -- fair enough, although I thought he had a fantastic game in a pre-season match against Dnepr (for that 90 mins, he was probably the best passer I'd seen at Reading for years).
I remember Adie Williams' first few games and thinking he was awful -- shows how much I know.....
