Or was it a difficult pass that was made to look easy by a good player ?

Perhaps we could convene at the Mad Stad in the morning and see which of us can play the pass....

Re: Back from the game ...er watching the World highlights

by PremAddict » 19 Mar 2009 22:48

Well, I know that 11 minutes of highlights does not equal the entire match (far from it) but I can say that there was a lot more possession and passing in this vid than in other match "highlights".

Hopefully the other 79+ minutes reflected the same as it would appear that in this formation, we have a Sidwell-esque player in Marek. Nice to see examples of the team working it from the back instead of hoofing it up the pitch...

I'm sorry. Sidwell and Matejovski are two completely different players. The only similarity between the two is that they both play in midfield.

Agreed.

Sidwell - box to box athletic, direct all-round, goalscoring midfielder
Matejovsky - string pulling, technical, "visionary", passing midfielder

Very very different players. I'd say Matejovsky is best compared with Caskey in terms of relatively recent midfielders. But without the deadball aspect to his game (probably).

I don't see how my post could have been worthy of your reply. :?

Because it was hardly a 'great pass'.. it was fairly standard as Armstrong had made a good run and there was a lot of space to play it into.

What was good was the turn and feint by Marek to make the pass. The defender dropped off and all that was needed was a well-timed run to make what was, as many suggest, a pretty standard pass. It's always the run (or lack of) that makes or breaks this kind of pass. He played a similar ball against Ipswich but Gunnar had checked his run, making Marek look crap.

I was sat right by that "pass" that Marek made to Gunnar against Ipswich & there's no way he - or anybody else in our team - could have got on the end of that.

I thought as well that Marek did his typical thing of not looking where he was passing, making the defenders think he was looking for the inside ball, so they backed off Armstrong.

Marek is half the player Caskey was....

Was very impressed with Marek against Wednesday and it looks like he thrived against Donny in a formation that suits him. Whilst He's not won me over, he's gradually getting there. I'm impressed with his improvement in stamina most of all. That was letting him down before.

I'd say it's more likely that he'd using less puff in his 'proper role' and so he doesn't need as much stamina as opposed to suddenly find some extra (although getting a run in the side will have helped a bit).

I hadn't noticed. I've only seen it on TV, but I stick to my opinion that upon multiple viewing it looks much better that standard, but a fair way short of derserving great and all the praise it is getting

Snowball is working on the stats. I reckon it may come in 2nd after a generic 'sideways' category for Harps.
