Too trivial a game for any ratings to be at all meaningful, IMHO. It was more about fitness and starting to see how players were working together - for instance Marek in left midfield playing lots of one-twos with Kebe on left wing.

You mean he actually got the ball back each time? Things really are looking up.

Both Reading teams played well and worked well together - particularly going forward. Thanks to Didcot who always make the Reading fans welcome - always a great game to go to.

Looks as if Matejovsky was played in the position we all wanted to see him last season - in the free role behind the striker but in front of midfield.

I'm impressed he connected with Kebe to start with

One touch football.. we moved the ball all over and ran there players out of position all the time... really encouraging

Although you could see a few players are going to take a little longer to adapt than others

See if we can keep it up

its the first game... what we need to remember is there will be more players added and some leaving... so it may just all click together and everything work

Biggest plus for the night (apart from being able to drink on the sidelines) last night was Scott Davies, bags of pace, good in the tackle, and very willing to get forward.

Robson Kanu looked half decent as well.

and I thought the marked absence of 'hoofball' . This may just have been down to a lack of pressure from the opposition but hopefully not.

Tamworth_Royal
winchester_royal Looks to me as if the second half team is BR's current first choice team.

4-4-1-1 oh dear

To be fair to Rodgers he described it himself as 4-3-3 so he probably doesn't see it as such a defensive set up as some others.

As for players showing up well last night, it's nice to see, but it really doesn't have any bearing on anything as it's just a run out for a bit of 'football fitness' before the real stuff starts.

Does anyone know if the fan who bid for a place in the team got a runout? If so, for how long and how did he get on??

We definately need 2 centre halves ready for the start of the season. Apart from that no complaints.

Was that just Long and Church....or are you including Henry, Kebe, Hal R-K etc in that?

If you're going to be pedantic and/or ask stupid questions why not include the other centre forward on display last night?

Was that Bignall?

I'm not trying to be pedantic....just trying to gauge how our wingers fared yesterday.

First half he played a 4-4-2 but the midfield four were narrow - his diamond with Tabb holding and Kanu in the hole. The full backs were providing the width - SHunt and Davies.
In the second half he went 4-3-3, with Karacan and Harper in centre mid, and Marek in the hole. Kebe and Henry played out wide and Church was up front on his own.

Only in the second half did BR play the wingers, Henry looked very good.
