paultheroyal In the last hour Adkins slowly slipping in the betting and his price has crashed to be manager of Leeds.

Interestingly Poyet odds of managing us has been slashed!

God sake Reading, just tie this deal up for Adkins and now!

I'd probably pick Poyet ahead of Adkins... Just.

Ladbrokes market also been suspended now.

I don't get why he'd come here though. BHA had 28k on Sat.

For a game against their big rivals and promotion contenders.. We could do the same.

Depends if he feels Anton could back him more in the transfer market.

Plus we're a big club in Championship terms. Other clubs' fans may not want to admit it, but we are. And if Anton is ambitious as he says he is then there is no reason why an up and coming manager wouldn't want to come here.

We need to get out of this 'little Reading mentality'.

I guess so but BHA is generally a pretty exciting project from the outside looking in. Surely only a matter of time before they get to the PL?

They're not allowed to play in the Premier League, on the basis that they have a regular attendance of 74 million, and their ground isn't big enough to handle it......

I think Anton is slowly taking us away from the little Reading mentality. I do believe that
We have a significant catchment area to get 35,000 a week if we are in the
Pl with a decent squad to atttract it. However, before we extend the stadium we need to get the playing staff right and develop the academy.

Difficult for AZ to make major changes quickly with so many of the old guard around. Think that next season we will see more changes as he roles out his 5 year plan. He can take us to the next level (established pl side) but football is not a normal business!

We have just begun an exciting new chapter in RFC's history. We will pee on BHA. 5 years in we will be sitting pretty in the pl and in an extended stadium. Sadly we will have to endure the championship again for a season or so (needlessly).

Hardly tough on us having to endure a return to the premier league... and that's only if this 'plan' works.

Reading hope for new manager by weekend as Russian owner flies in

Reading are hopeful they will be in a position to appoint a permanent replacement for Brian McDermott before the weekend. Anton Zingarevich, the club's owner, is due to fly in from Russia this week for talks with prospective candidates, including Nigel Adkins, about becoming the new manager.

Adkins remains the frontrunner, although it is by no means regarded as a formality that the former Southampton manager will take the position if it is offered to him. As well as wanting assurances about the club's direction and resources under Zingarevich, Adkins is likely to have other options available to him in the near future, including the possibility of taking over at Leeds United, where Neil Warnock has confirmed he will step down at the end of the season if the club fail to win promotion to the Premier League.

Blackburn Rovers' decision to sack Michael Appleton has opened up another opportunity in the Championship, albeit one that many will view as a poisoned chalice, given the frequency with which the club's owners, Venky's, have changed managers since their takeover in November 2010.

Eamonn Dolan, who was placed in charge of Reading in a caretaker capacity when McDermott was dismissed, is now second favourite for the Madejski Stadium vacancy with the bookmakers. But there are no plans to interview him or allow him to continue until the end of the season in a temporary role.

Under Dolan, who is highly regarded for his work in the club's academy, Reading gave a decent account of themselves in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday. That result, though, leaves Reading second from bottom in the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety with eight matches remaining.

Surely we would be considered a better offer over the likes of Leeds and Blackburn?

Shovelling shit for a living is a more tantalising offer than mamaging Blackburn Rovers at this moment in time.

Although recent history would suggest the blackburn job is a no brainer. Sign a multi-year contract for a fair amount of money and then take the pay off after 60 days. Just popped my application in

I guess if they're going to have to pay Berg and Appleton, and then there's a possibility they'll sack another before the end of the season, they'll have spent £10M just on compensation for sacked managers before the season is over?

Probably something ridiculous like that. The new manager will probably be in an odd situation where he hasnt got any money to spend on new players because they cant afford to pay that and the compensation  Almost makes QPR look like a well run club

Jellytot talks about 'Anton's 5 year plan' which is scary, the Russian mentality for 5 year plans is to build a tractor factory which produces archaic tractors, badly, that nobody wants to buy!

Apparently Adkins has been away on holiday, so that is presumably why there has been a delay in the arrival of Anton and interviews? This would surely suggest he is first choice, if he can be persuaded to choose us over Leeds. I think Leeds might well appear more attractive to him. Personally, I would be very happy with Eammon to the end of the season, then a big re shuffle in the summer.

Another important factor might well be Adkins home life. If he has relatively young kids he may want to take the job with us as it is probably commutable from where he has been living for the last three years whilst managing the Man Utd of the south coast.

Stuart Higgins, ex Sun Editor, PR guru (last HN reference was to his hasty trip to SA to help Pistorius' news management) has been called in to the Mad Stad to offer advice.

Not that newsworthy, as he's worked for SJM before with advice on how to make the club feel a bit more "premiership" so he's not a stranger to the parish - but perhaps a recognition that we might have opened ourselves up to looking a bit Wolvesy or Blackburnish with this 'transition'.
