Bob has been rumoured to be interested in buying a soccer club in the UK, and has twice been to visit St Andrews, home of Championship team, the Birmingham City who have been up for sale for the past two years. On January 3rd 2014 a consortium headed by McNair made a bid to purchase Reading F.C of the championship.

Didn't take long.

Just Google-imaged Bob McNair and was delighted to see that he is bald(ing). Can't be bothered to Imageschack it for the benefit of all, you do the Math :!: as he would no doubt say himself.

Bob McNair
Bob McNair
Bobby, Bob McNair
He's got no hair but we don't care
Bobby, Bob McNair

^ For the above reason, I am therefore IN.

Bob McNair also carries on the fine traditions of RFC American Bob's, see also Bobby Convey and Bob Lenarduzzi. Actually, Lenarduzzi might be Canadian. Or am I thinking of Gentle Bob :?:

I cannot believe how many so called ITKs are tweeting this crap. It may be him, it may not be. However, any resource that allows users to update its' records is always going to be the truth instrument through which everything should be judged *SIGH*. As I didn't hit the 'PANIC' button when the rumours of Anton bailing first came out, nor am I going to hit the 'SPUNK' now that this story has arrived.

That update appeared at about 1 o'clock when did his name start being mentioned?

And who was the first to mention it.

Given his age, let's hope we set up a Liebherr type arrangement to safeguard the future...

Think it was one of the young ITK set....... Jack Simpson, Reading FC News and Jimmy Coulson are the ones I've seen.

LoyalRoyalFan He owns the Houston Texans.

He's a billionaire apparently, but they're in debt. Smells a bit of the Glazers when they transferred the debt for purchasing Manure back on the club.

All that glitters is not gold and all that. Just look at Bolton, god knows how they got that far into debt.

I'm not disputing his worth, I am just concerned that his team is rumoured to be vastly in debt. This may work in the States where the Houston Texans (nee Oilers) have a huge following in quite a rich state, but I am not sure quite how that model could be transferred to us if we did get back into the PL.

It says his net stake in Houston Texans is worth a debt of $600+m so surely that means that the shares are just worth a lot less than when he bought them?

Even with that debt he still has a net worth of $1.4bn though.

Why would he push that Debt onto us though, the only reason the Glazers did it with Man United was because Man United make so much money every year that they knew they would be able to pay it off without disrupting the running of the club too much.
Man Utd is a worldwide brand and money making machine. Reading is not.

I admit that sounds more positive than the sentence I read (I've been a few McNair articles earlier, mainly trying to establish if he actually was interested in buying a club so I can't source the exact one.) so what does that make the team's debt??? 13% of value I think it said, is that 13% of the $1.4B value of the franchise?

Just looked a bit deeper into that $600M debt thing:

"His stake in Houston Texans is worth $630 million net of debt."

Puts a slightly different complexion on things wouldn't you say?
