Barry the bird boggler Brighton fans have their say...

I've always had a distaste for Brighton and this only ramps that up even further.

Really? It's not as if they're slating us, they seem to be quite realistic.

Brighton have given Gus Poyet permission to speak to Reading over their managerial vacancy, Sky sources understand.

The Premier League's bottom side are seeking a replacement for Brian McDermott, who was sacked earlier this month after a run of four straight defeats.

Neither club has commented on the reports but Poyet been backed into odds as short as 1-10 with several bookmakers.

"Permission to talk" is just that, though, and might be triggered by a "Premier League" clause in Poyet's contract.

He might not be offered what he wants, or Reading might quail at the compensation cost of getting him to break a 5-year contract.

Then again he might just be doing what McDermott did with Wolves last year, and using the interest of another club to negotiate a better contract package where he is - without any intentions of actually leaving.

Quite excited about this, but I do have a feeling he could turn us down (if it is true that we're speaking to him!)

didnt they refuse to allow him to talk to us last week though?

Agreed. Don't know why he'd leave them for us. We're basically in a very similar position in terms of facilities and finances, but they probably have a better chance of being in the premier league next season, and he's built their team himself.

Aren't Sky sources always wrong?

Also, why are QPR seeking a replacement for Brian?

1. I will be waiting for someone more reliable to confirm it than Sky Sports

2. Why would he be so good here? I am not against< i just don't know much of his managerial career. I thought he spent big in L1 and got them up, then spend bigger in the Championship and established them as a run of the mill mid table team.

My number one choice. I had a tickle on him at 40-1 so yes yes please.

Would totally understand if he turns us down.

Check the dates and you'll see that The Russians arrived in Jan, and McCarthy wasn't sacked 'til mid-Feb. BMc spoke to them late Feb/early March.

He could be the creative midfielder we've been looking for.
