At least you've got the decency to admit your character, that you think twat, moron, and unmeasurably stupid are reasonable responses to someone who disagrees with you.

Not at all, I enjoy disagreement and reasoned debate very much.

I see that here almost 2% of the time.

Then you are a fool because a closer analysis of this thread would reveal that you've had structured well reasoned counter arguments throughout. You just chose to ignore those and pick up on the 1 word in the reply that can lead you to a different obscure stat.

Snowball This bunch of losers, probably never played football...

You keep referring to your time as a player, how you were this and that and quite the rapid winger.
What level did you play at? You seem quite full of it so I'm presuming you think you played at a decent standard.

I've never been "full of it" or overplayed my playing years.

No I didn't play to a high standard. I was a Longy, didn't play at all until I was 16. Started in the RAF
played a lot, well all the time if I could. Was very, very fast and my first touch made Long look like Messi,
but I got better and better and played until I was 38. RW for a long time, CF for about 4-5 years, then CB
which I thought, relatively was a piece of piss.

I played 2 x 90 minutes last year (aged 62) AND scored. Not bad for a bloke with a metal knee.

My biggest regret was I didn't play soccer as a kid because I was extremely quick and I think I could
have been a reasonable player. But I've been in and around soccer, involved in the back-room and
fund-raising etc for NCAFC, got to know a few managers and players personally, even had a 10-15 minute
1-2-1 chat with Bill Shankly once. (Accident, he thought I was someone else, but who cares?)

Fair enough, it was a genuine question, and you almost gave me a straight answer.

I was more interested in what the was standard like? Hobnob FC level? More like Reading Town? Higher?

Full of it might've been an exaggeration, but you do like to drop your 'career' in there now and again and as above belittle those who haven't played.

Another game, another blank. The bloke is f*cking useless
He's like a poor man's Emile Hesky.
time to move on Shane, sorry as you are a nice guy.
Must be some mistake as Snowball factually proved that Long would score 30 goals in this league if he played every game.
Snowball will probably dredge up some useless stats proving that we're better off without Rasiak and Sigurdson.
Church and Hunt >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Long.
All of our strikers are shite. Long in particular.
hunt>>>>long=church
Piss off Long and take Madejski, McDermott and Church's shit finishing with you.
can't believe that Shane fcuking Long has played 162 times for Reading; 35 (and counting) more than Cureton
Long could score 30 goals a season in the Blue Square South, on Football Manager, so there.
He's useless- plain and simple.
Spoken like a true idiot.
Absolute shit from the usual suspects.
He was shite 5 years ago and by the sounds of it, has gone backwards.
Oh you don't understand. He works hard and is good to animals.
Has the uselesscunt gone yet?
I hope you read and digested all of the above post. There's a test later.
I think he's probably had 3 good games this season.
It might be my imagination but isn't Shane often substituted when we score our late goals?
When I think of Fozzie I think ' offside'..
Who is the better England striker Snowball, Sheringham or Defoe?
tbf i think youre all well gay
LOL
Is Defoe or Sheringham the better England striker?
FAO Snowball: How many chances did Long miss today?
3 goals scored as soon as Shlong is subbed, 'nuff said.
NHunt and Church starting together next week then, eh Snowball?
But it's also true that his legs are too short for his body and he runs like a girl.
We need GOOD strikers, so let him go.
Why don't you just go off to a casino with Tom Cruise?
Get to oxf*rd
Do you also think he was behind 9/11 or was the shooter on the grassy knoll?
shut the oxf*rd up all of you you bunch of gaylord derrbrains
Ears deaf on falling
Shane LOLong.
F*ck off Long.

So that's about 25 comments on a 68 page thread then and half of those were said in jest

So the general conscensus is that people don't rate Long whether posted by a literate or an illiterate.

chilipepper91 Just scored a pen for Ireland.

Did he win it?

Fair play to him, he's getting goals more at the moment, but it doesn't bode that well that the majority are penalties which rely on people fouling him (or someone else) in the box. I can't see us getting much more than about another 6 penalties this season tops, so he'll need to start banging them in from open play soon.

He used to be quite good at attacking crosses, but playing one up and with the likes of McAnuff & Kebe etc on the wing. Running down the flanks and putting a good ball into space for a striker to run onto and attack doesn't seem to happen as much now. That's much more Coppell era.

He did indeed winning it. Admittedly just BBC website live commentary but they're saying he's doing well.

And the problem with him putting a good ball into the striker is that he is the striker. He can't live on his own, he's not good enough on his own but he can win headers, lay the ball off well and set up moves.

Sorry, I meant the wingers doing that... I'd kiss the ground he walked on if he could peg it down the wing cross and then get on the end of it himself!

Have watched a fair bit of the game as the England match is so depressing and it has been a typical Long performance. He has played pretty well, worked his socks off, won and scored a penalty and missed a couple of decent chances in open play.

Two Sky pundits saying he is full of confidence because he has scored so many goals for his Club this season. Hmmm.

It's still 2 goals and an assist in 3 internationals.

How is Doyle doing?

That's four goals in six games, plus two assists, plus two cracking 25 yarders, one of which went in, the other saved.

23-10-2010 Football League Championship Burnley 0-4 Reading SCORED, Plus one assist, plus won free-kick for a goal, plus got opponent sent off
30-10-2010 Football League Championship Reading 4-3 Doncaster 0
06-11-2010 Football League Championship QPR 3-1 Reading SCORED from 25 YARDS
10-11-2010 Football League Championship Reading 1-1 Cardiff 0
13-11-2010 Football League Championship Reading 3-3 Norwich SCORED
17-11-2010 International Ireland 1-2 Norway SCORED

So with 29 games to go in the league (call it 30, the sums are easier)

If Long was to get 4 goals every 6 games, 3 of which were penalties that he won and then scored

He'd be on 24 RFC goals and at least 2 International goals, never mind other internationals or cups

But he's not very good is he?

Maybe looking at just the last 6 is a bit tight? How about the last ten then?

08-10-2010 European Championships Ireland 2-3 Russia SCORED
12-10-2010 European Championships Slovakia 1-1 Ireland 0 Man of the Match Award
16-10-2010 Football League Championship Reading 0-1 Swansea 0
19-10-2010 Football League Championship Bristol C 1-0 Reading 0
23-10-2010 Football League Championship Burnley 0-4 Reading SCORED Plus one assist, plus won free-kick for a goal, plus got opponent sent off
30-10-2010 Football League Championship Reading 4-3 Doncaster 0
06-11-2010 Football League Championship QPR 3-1 Reading SCORED

13-11-2010 Football League Championship Reading 3-3 Norwich SCORED
17-11-2010 International Ireland 1-2 Norway SCORED

Hmmmm, he's slipping if you look at the last ten games. That's him down to 5 goals in 9 (1) (22 minute sub appearance) and only 5 goals, 2 assists, one international Man of the Match Award.

He really IS crap, isn't he?

That's SIX goals now, and we are still in November. He doesn't usually start to play until January....

Playing in the Premier League if I am not mistaken. The only way Shane Long will get back there is with Reading as he really is not good enough to be bought by a PL club.

Decent performance from Shane tonight in an otherwise useless Ireland side. If Walters can get premiership football and a £3million price tag then Long is worth at least £5million

Well Long has only scored 4 in 6 for Reading once in five years at the club - would be great if he can do it once this season, nevermind hold that form until May.
