LoyalRoyalFan I'm still waiting for the likes of SPARTA and winchester_royal to fully explain why they wanted McDermott to get the boot so much.
Because his performance at the time was poor, squad morale was low, the side was devoid of ideas and his style of football was completely unsuited to the level we were aiming at. We went from a team of depressed shadows to a team starting in a new positive direction with higher morale. That in itself vindicates the decision as reasonable, so far.
McDermott performed very well and got his chance at the top level because of that. He'll always be thought of highly here because of that, but when he got the chance to manage at the top level he was found seriously wanting. There are dozens of decisions that went wrong that you can point to that he had at least a hand in. I don't think anyone really got things right last season, but at the end of the day, it's the manager who's the focal point and the manager who carries the can when it goes wrong. Just as lots of people were behind our success the season before, yet McDermott gets the majority of the plaudits for it.
The club moves on, he moves on and both (hopefully) learn some lessons and come out better for it. The fans, clearly, are incapable of moving on. At least until the new season's well and truely under way.
