Santangelo is a very promising young keeper. Defo one to keep an eye on. We seem to be blessed with keepers at the moment.

Simon Locke joining Forest Green on emergency loan:

Reading keeper Simon Locke joins Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green Rovers have signed Reading goalkeeper Simon Locke on an emergency loan until 28 December after Jonathan Bond was recalled by Watford.

Locke, 20, is yet to make a senior appearance either for the Royals or during previous loans spells with Gillingham and Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Hornets have cut short Bond's spell at the New Lawn four days early.

That left James Bittner as Rovers' only fit keeper with Matt Bulman sidelined by a knee injury.

Following the closure of the loan window last week Forest Green had to request special dispensation from the Football Association to complete the deal for Locke.

That Brett Williams goal was really good. Watch his movement and the neat finish.

Michael Hector extends his stay at Barnet. Haven't heard of him?

Surprisingly, me neither. Sounds like a decent prospect; pro experience under his belt in the Irish league. Getting League 2 experience in a decent defence at 19. Gyfli was playing in League 2 at 19 I believe. Not immediately suggesting he'll be as good as that, but there must be a possibility that he could challenge for our squad in the future. Useful size at 6 ft 4 too.

Speaking of promising centre backs, what is Jack Mills up to these days? Out on loan somewhere?

Hector seemed to be involved a lot in the first game Baseya played.

Barnet are playing Swindon in the area final of the Johstone Paints thing so Hector/Baseya are only 180 minutes from going to Wembley.

May be reading too much into it but Hector's loan finishes before the Swindon games and as this story is on our OS I imagine there is already a deal in place for his loan to be extended again in January.

Leeds fans love McCarthy and most would like to sign him permanently - see comments at end of article. Well done to the guy. Cannot see us holding on to all three of our keepers if we don't get promoted this season.

Ideal Of course they love him, he is a fantastic goalkeeper.

I don't really wish to comment on Federici, as that'll get people all up in arms, but McCarthy is clearly better.

That is an utterly ridiculous comment.

No one wants McCarthy to be a top player more than me. I first saw him as a youngster aged about 17 and even then he impressed, but at this time Federici is clearly and rightly our number 1.

In the long term McCarthy has all the attributes to be a top - possibly even England keeper - but he is not better than Federici yet.

It will, however, be a problem keeping McCarthy and Andersen happy and I am sure we would cash in on Federici if a team came in for him. Equally if someone offered £5M for McCarthy then sadly we might see him go. RFC would be mad to take less than that.

How is it 'utterly ridiculous'? Because you don't agree?

I don't think McCarthy has enough experience to fetch a big fee yet. If we sold him for £1m-£2m, I would rate that as the worst piece of business in the past 10 years or so from our perspective.

McCarthy is already Premier League quality IMO and will get even better. I just dont see the same qualities in Federici, despite him being a decent keeper at Chamionship level.

Personally i think it is a travesty he is out on loan and not in our starting line up

Sell, Sell, Sell. Andersen is a better prospect than McCarthy.

Surprised at how much anti-Federici sentiment there is on this board, especially when he's having his best year in a Reading shirt IMO.

+1, the proof is in the pudding. Nobody wants Federici despite us signalling his availability, but they're desperate to sign McCarthy.

Federici will A) have a higher price tag B) have higher wage demands C) would want first team football now, not end up like Brad Jones at Liverpool.

There wasn't really an opening for a first team keeper at Premier League level this summer and why would Federici want to move to another Championship side when he's comfortable and established No1 at a play-off contending team?

McCarthy on the other hand is young enough that a Premier League club wouldn't have to put him straight in and could loan him to a club like Leeds for a whole year or two without him getting impatient.

He's still a bit of an arrogant so and so and not good enough to get away with it.

He's made more than enough mistakes over his time here which I guess sticks in the mind.
