That was probably the youngest Reading side I have ever seen...and overall I thought they did pretty well.
Le Fondre looks a cracking signing. Busy, lively and took his goals really well.
For those who said Church did nothing you need to remove the blinkers. His all-round game is coming on. He was also involved in the build-up to both goals. With the first goal his cross was headed down by Karacan for Le Fondre to place over the keeper. The second goal started with Church running hard from our penalty box to the halfway line before passing inside to Karacan. His aerial ability is poor but last night he won some headers which he flicked. He did numerous neat touches and cleared the ball with a defensive header in the first half. He did well but should have had a crack at goal when Kebe passed to him instead of cutting inside.
HRK looked poor and disinterested in the first half. Much better in the second half though with some decent crosses.
The one disappointment was Mills who on a number of occasions in the first half over-hit his crosses and he looks defensively a bit suspect...but he's young so lets not write him off.

Derby offered very little.

St Pauli Not sure if it's been mentioned but a big plus from last night was the reaction of Y26/25 to being told to sit down by the stewards: 'We pay your wages, we'll do what we like.'

Yeah this^^^^^^... and Legs run and panic shot in the first half were worth the money alone.

Fair play to Legs it was one heck of a run though....shocking shot to finish with though.

Yeah completely forgot about this. After doing all the hard work, he completely bottled it. Looked like he sh@t himself.

CayeneMatt
grey_squirrel Maybe if McD sticks with Mills on Saturday, he will be able to show Adkins that he was wrong to think of him as only their third choice left back!......but still good enough for our first 11 !!!..... but I doubt it.

I doubt it too. I've been slated in the past for backing Harte, and whilst I admit he had a shocking start to the season, its obvious why Southampton let Mills go.
Now all the furore has died down about having a lightening quick LB, I'm glad to see some have realised that we actually need one that can play.

He could well have potential, but he's a liability at the moment.

PEARCEY ... [Church] did well but should have had a crack at goal when Kebe passed to him instead of cutting inside.

The reason he had to cut back in was that Kebe under hit the pass meaning that it wasn't going to reach him so that he could get the shot away. If anything though Kebe should have taken the shot as the defence just opened in front of him.

just stubbed the shot- was a bit embarrassing, but if i were derby fans id be more embarrassed by him knicking the ball off their attacker outside his own box, then waltzing through their entire team to the edge of the area, pretty much unchallenged

..bottled it or simply miscued and stubbed his toe in the act of shooting? I'd suggest the latter.

Mind you, with your views expressed on other players on this thread I'd take any comment from you with a large pinch of salt

FiNeRaIn harte..Mills

Mills is playing because Harte has proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is so far past it, he couldn't run to save his life.
If you believe we have a problem at left back, then Harte is not the answer to that problem.
This means we have to go in to the transfer market.

You don't cure cancer by getting Aids.

Ha ha. Shame we can't bring on Harte for set pieces & then take him off again straight after!

That exact topic came up on BBRB commentary of the game. With ten minutes or so to go and us level, wouldn't it be a good idea to bring the 'old boy' on should we get a free kick within his range? I think it's an option MaccyD should think about.

I don't think it is worth it. I think it's extremely unlikely a player will come on and hit a near perfect free kick with his first touch. Fairly good chance he'll need a little bit of in game warm up and a few touches to get the feel of things, before he can strike a dead ball to his best.

And then you're potentially destabilising the whole defence for the crucial last few minutes.

Unless, of course, that player is called Darren Caskey!

Bournemouth at home? From a similar position?

Damn! Ferris beat me to it!

Just seen the goals. LOL @ having a go at Mills for the second. Out fought at the back stick, not a foul but very good work from the Derby player, no real big error from Mills. Would like him to do better, but he's hardly fecked up massively. Far more upset about the poor defence from the throw in tbh.

LOL @ finerain having a go at Mills for the first where he's clearly marking his player well, when Ledge & HRK completely lose their men and Fed could have done better to make a save.

Great ball from HRK for Le Fondre to score a header. He finds space so well.
Good ball in from Church for the first, don't know what people are whining about there... he also took down a freekick from Mills well and put in a decent flicked cross for Gorkss and someone else to try and pressure the keeper to score first half.

Just about sums it up Ian Royal. If all you expect from a forward is an overhit cross, and a couple of good flicks!!! LeFondre is taking all the pressure, he needs someone to work with for 90 mins and who can also score goals.

You said 'I think it's extremely unlikely a player will come on and hit a near perfect free kick with his first touch'. I gave you an example, didn't say anything about being a defender :|

Church has been instrumental in our turnaround in form. He is exactly what we needed after the shambles earlier in the season. He might not have a long term future because he just doesn't have the overall quality, but just cast your mind back to the Watford shambles.

For me his performance against Doncaster was massive in the context of the whole season, a MOTM performance that dragged us out of a severe slump. It was only 3 points on the day against a poor team, but the implied value of that performance will be worth a lot lot more in the long run.
