Perhaps he did it deliberately to get publicity - as a "say something some people will find controversial and stir people up to get my name bandied about because no publicity is bad publicity" sort of thing... which would make him a bit like a footballing Oliv*r H*lt really.
I find it quite amusing though - was he intended to be a Sidwell replacement? If so, they got it spot on - faced with the choice of signing for us or a bigger club that pretty much guarantees CL football and pays almost twice as much, he did exactly what Sidders did! (except Sidders didn't make ill-advised comments - oh, apart from the one about having his wife and kid to consider which some thought ill advised...)
Overall, don't really care about his comments or about him but am very glad that with a seeming "open mouth before engaging brain" attitude like his, he ended up not coming to us - could have done more harm than good.
