You haven't seen Hunt play either yet you are going to cry if we sign him.

For me Noel Hunt just doesn't raise my blood pressure that highly.

Agree. I'm not excited in the slightest of having Stephen Hunt's brother playing for us. I'm just desperate for someone with genuine ability rather than another 'run all day player'.

Only seen Hunt on Setanta but seems OK.

Put the wind up Rangers in league cup final.

Just because he's cheap and the world and it's dog aren't sniffing around doesn't make him crap!!!!

Streets Not sure about any comments, I just think we are so tight in the transfer market that we're left with the likes of Noel Hunt when we could of had a Rob Hulse.

THis is the same Rob Hulse who Blades fans aren't sorry to see go and are happy that they still have Stead instead of him? The same Rob Hulse who has not regained any sort of form since coming back from serious injury? The same Rob Hulse who did not score a single goal in 24 appearances in the 07/08 season? The same Rob Hulse who has just cost Derby £1.75m?

For the Blades Henderson is an improvement on Hulse.

I'd rather have Ade Akinbiyi (Ok maybe not, but you get my point). But I'd definately rather have Noel Hunt.

Have you seen Hunt play or is it just because we are after him?

Hulse is >>>>>>>>>>>>> Henderson. I'd wager a good chunk of cash on Hulse getting 15 goals at least for Derby next season.

No I haven't but given the choice between Hulse and Hunt I'd have Hunt. Maybe Hulse can rediscover his form but he didn't score in 24 appearances last season but because he is a name that people of heard of and can command a fee of £1.75m he must be excellent.

If we had signed Hulse you can guarantee that some of those saying we should have signed him AFTER his move to Derby would be the same people saying we paid way too much for an injury prone striker who can't score if we had signed him.

My grouse isn't about Hunt himself it's about having different types of strikers.
Fergie (don't forget they are English and European champions)is trying to get a different type of Striker in Berbatov to replace the forever injured Saha.
He already has little ones up front and now wants a bigger one.
We already have 3 little ones so surely don't need another?

Certainly is because all those £1m+ signing we have made have been such a success. With transfers you win some and you lose some but it is all about spotting value.

Take a look at a regular first XI for us in a first Prem season and then count up the number of them that cost more than £600k.

Be funny if we draw Chelsea in the cup and can unleash two Hunts.

I'll reserve judgement on (new) Hunt until I've seen him play.

To be honest I'd be happy with *any* signing right about now just to get the ball rolling.

I agree, but like others on here I don't quite have the same feel for this fella.

THe thing that annoyed me most about our play last season was our tendancy to hit long balls to Kitson whenever he was on the pitch, and when he wasn't we generally kept the passes shorter and on the ground. I know which style of play I prefer to watch.

It is also a style that is more likely to be successful. If you can get it right.

Didn't I read somewhere that Noel Hunt has outjumped defenders who were taller than him?

Is it? West Brom were not a long ballside, and neither were Hull or Bristol City.

It is a style that is good if you are just an average team with big strong players but is awful to watch.

I'd much prefer us to go back to playing 442 with traditional wingers and getting the ball out wide at every opportunity and breaking with pace. IF you can get that working you will win most matches as we proved 3 seasons ago.

That's what a Dundee United fan said.

Spot on. Even Doyle who nobody had heard of was being courted by Stoke and Burnley at the time we signed him.

Only at the last minute after we'd scouted for over 12 months, and only because they'd heard that we were interested and wanted to try and hi-jack it.

Hmmm, not sure that's corrrect tbf. I don't know about Burnley but I know that Stoke had been tracking him for a long time. They were also linked with Doyle long before we were.

Never seen him play but would be delighted to sign him at this point if he has his brothers energy. Steven has been excelent for us for most of his time at the club and I for one would be over the moon if he stayed.

Pretty sure it was Stoke who were hi-jacking our attempt at the last minute.

Dundee United striker Noel Hunt
Hunt was United's leading scorer last season

Dundee United have rejected a bid from Reading for striker Noel Hunt.

Tannadice manager Craig Levein did not reveal the amount offered for the Irishman but told BBC Sport that it was immediately turned down.

The 25-year-old former Dunfermline forward scored 18 goals for the Terrors last season.

Hunt's brother Stephen already plies his trade with Reading, who are looking to replace Dave Kitson after his £5.5m sale to Stoke City.

Hunt, who began his career with Shamrock Rovers, has a year of his contract to run with Dundee United.
