If this were to happen we'd be 3 points off the play-offs with 2 games in hand

That article is a week old though, is this more/less likely to happen now...?

I have just read though that if you go into administration after the fourth Thursday in March (i.e. tomorrow) then the deduction doesn't count for this year and carries over to next year instead.

What if that team goes on to get promoted to the Premier League?

It's a little more complicated than that. I can't find the full regulations on the football league's site, but this statement with regards to Southampton's administration last season should clear it up:-
The Board of The Football League As the insolvency event occurred after The Football League's deadline of the fourth Thursday in March, the points deduction will take effect either:

1.In the current season, if Southampton avoid relegation to League 1;
or
2.next season, if the club does not avoid relegation.

First, a minor gripe: wishing this thread hadn't been renamed from its original title "Relegation watch"

On the subject: Palace are alone in the third bottom position, stood a dozen points adrift of us on 39 with 8 games left for them to play

Assuming that they win all of them, Palace would end up on 63 points, and we would need to do one better if we were to finish with an inferior goal difference

So right now it's 64 points to safety (a bar that only can fall), and any combination of 13 points won by us and dropped by Palace, assuming that they remain third bottom or better, would see us to safety

The soonest that this could happen would be on Saturday week 3rd April, and it assumes that we defeat Albion and Ipswich as Palace do no better than a two draws and a loss to Cardiff at home, Watford away next Tuesday and Boro away on the 3rd

It also assumes that Argyle drop 5 points from their three games to be played over the same span; the next point won by us or dropped by Posh ensures that we won't finish bottom in any event

Anyway, it's a bit of a longshot, but just think of it --safe before Easter with 7 games left

Oh, and genius genius:

Agreed, back to relegation watch please Tails. There is another pLOLay offs thread anyway.

Time for the runin link

http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/runin.html

We're clear of the Posh (barring a calamitous GD swing) but can't catch the Toon. Everything else is still to play for.

I have a sneaky feeling Plymouth might get themselves out of it at Watford's expense.

I reckon Cardiff would have to be deducted points if they go into admin to keep consistency. Lets not forget its effectively a form of cheating, and to go unpunished this season would be disgraceful if they went onto gain something from the Admin.

Bring back Relegation Watch!

Big result for Palace winning 3-1 at Watford, makes for squeaky bum time at both Vicarage Road and Hillsborough.

I'm sure these observations must have been made elsewhere on this board so apologies in advance ....

But ....

Only three of our remaining eight games are away. All the games against top 6 teams are at home.

Swansea's goal-difference is not much better than ours but, if it comes down to goals scored, Swansea have scored fewer goals than any other team in the league including The Posh!

That's due to the fact that the Cardiff fixture is incorrect; we play them away on April 10th.

I think 15 points from those last 8 games is achievable and that would put us 4th. Depending how the rest of the top 8 do, of course.
