A Sunderland supporter wrote I would like the club to show some ambition and try to tempt Graham Potter from Brighton.

Seems laughable, but surely we have to be convincing managers (and ourselves?) that we are top 10 Prem potential, and Potter has surely taken Brighton as far as he can.

That must be a joke right? I mean tongue must be firmly pressed against cheek else if not, that is some grade A stupidity right there.

Nope, he was being deadly serious.

To be honest, he is setting his ambitions a little low........he should want his board to show some REAL ambition and try to tempt Guardiola or Klopp to the Stadium of Light - now that would convince everybody that they are top 10 Prem potential..............maybe Jose is getting board at Roma? Chuck a few quid plus unlimited stotties and I am sure he will hot foot it up the A19.

Top 10 my arse. They're one of about 20 interchangeable PL yo-yo clubs with delusions of grandeur.

To be fair, they probably are "top 10 potential" in the Premier League - although there are a host of other clubs both in and out of the Premier League that, by history, would suggest they could fall under the same category as well.

They just need to stick to the level they are at really, Mowbray would be a good appointment for them, would bring some stability for a couple of seasons you feel as well.

Hell, we've finished top 10. Half the Football League has brief top 10 potential and Sunderland certainly don’t have prolonged top 10 potential.

Blackburn fans seem to dislike Mowbray. Be interesting to see how he does there

Didn't they just generally get fed up of having the same season, year in, year out.

Start pretty well, hang around the play-off spots until about Christmas, then form falls of a cliff and they finish around 15th to 18th.

They do seem to have sped up the doing well to being crap transition this year though.

Scotty P given the boot by Bournemouth already

Suspect they’ll be more heavily featured in this thread again next season. They look a right mess

Easy to do after a 9-0 defeat but realistically with the squad they have, which is top end Championship really, to have 3 points from games against Villa, Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool is pretty much par - arguably 2 points more than could have been expected before the season started.

Without bringing in more quality, I have no idea how they even begin to survive this year. Doubtless Dyche's name will be linked, if it hasn't been already.

Does feel like the bubble is bursting a bit and they may well fall back to mid-table Championship for a few years.

Have a feeling the owners may have played the game a bit and will pocket the cash and just accept relegation - but like Norwich last few years

Their losses have been huge last few years

Yeah I thought it was related to finance in some way. It seems his post-match comments could be seen as a dig towards the owner, when you consider the likes of Forest are splashing the cash and Fulham have managed to bring several new faces through the door (even with suspected FFP issues towards them if Marco Silva is to be believed) and they've ended up with very little thus far.

If being wary of FFP is the reason for Bournemouth's lack of spending (and Fulham are keeping a watchful eye as well allegedly), it just goes to show how much they must have spent in the last few years, with precious little success to show for it in the grand scheme of things.

Can see them going for a 3 line whip management structure and appoint current back room team. No big names will go in there and they are not a dyche, allardyce type of club…

But….

Redknapp perhaps? Final fling with young management back room duo like Elphick?

Reading the statement from their owner it’s clear that Parker was sacked because of his comments after the game rather than results. He might well be right but publicly undermining the club, rightly or wrongly, is a sure way to see your departure accelerated.

I kind of get it tbh. The manager and the owners need to be aligned with the same vision - even if it isn’t one of immediate success.

Either way, they’re down.

Well played, SP. Saw the inevitable coming and got out and paid off early doors with jobs aplenty about to become available.

Maybe a bit of a shame that both the Stoke and Sunderland jobs have gone (assuming he doesn't go for the Sunderland job that is) as that might have been a decent fit for him. There will be more that open up in the Championship, West Brom might be one if their results don't start picking up.

They'll be an opening at Villa in a few weeks.
