URZZZZZZZZ You don't notice it from the highlights, but if you watch the full 90 mins of Reading World there's something very interesting from Karacan's goal. All the Reading players in the box push so far forward that Karacan has about a 15ft radius of space around him. By the time the Forest defence realise the amount of space he has, it's too late! That was either a perfectly executed set piece routine, or we were very lucky. I reckon its the first option!

If it's the first option, why can't we do it more often?

Because teams are now starting to be scared of us and man marking our players, so wherever our players go, the markers will be tight to them. Regardless, it was a fantastic goal!

Just realised. A Goal from a Corner! Whatever next!

Not that surprising, we've had about half a dozen from corners this season, and it isn't just one person putting in good balls, it's McAnuff, Howard & Harte.

URZZ - Karacan arrived quite late to the box iirc... he seemed to hang back, then either as part of the plan or when he saw the space and realised he wasn't needed so deep he went forward. Forest saw it as you say, but a fraction to late to get anything more than a half challenge in.

But given previous analysis of goals from corners, when someone (may have been you) pointed out that goals are only scored from about 2 to 3% of corners, any goal from a corner is a surprise!

I knew goals from corners are rare, I didn't post any specific stats that I recall. In general it is a surprise to score from a corner. It is less of a surprise for us to score from a corner at the moment, seeing as we have three excellent corner takes and a decent record of scoring from them already this season.

Not being a surprise, does not necessarily mean that it would be a common occurance though.

I guess it must have been Snowball then

Anyway, knowing the stats are so against scoring it now surprises me every time anyone score from a corner!

It's not often a player will time their arrival in the box that perfectly.
It's not often the defending team will have everyone in the box about 6 yards from the byline.
It's not often a player will put in a cross that pin point
And it's not that often a player will direct their header that perfectly.

Like every form of attacking, if you mix up what you're doing it makes you harder to predict and therefore harder to defend against.

Fantastic photo! Longy looks clinically depressed compared to those three.
