Harte? - I know he's ROI but if he played X years < age 21 in the UK he'll count as home grown.

Don't know if this has come up at all, and not all that important - Sol Campbell retired today, and commented that this was in spite of two offers to play this season, one from a team 'just promoted to the Premier League' - possible we might have approached Sol?

Gorkss, Federici
The foreigner rule is really hard to break. We could sign 10 foreigners this summer and be fine.

Premier League Squad Size

by Barry the bird boggler » 21 May 2012 09:05

Just for clarification, so we all know, the rules for Premier League squads I believe are:

Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least 8 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

>>>>> Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

>>>>> Clubs can supplement the squad with any number of players under the age of 21.

>>>>> Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

>>>>> Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.

>>>>> Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.

Now, from the current squad (current ages alongside each player), I make about 20 players are definites for the 25 man squad:

1 Federici - 27
2 Karacan - 23
3 Pearce - 23
4 Tabb - 28
5 Leigertwood - 29
6 Le Fondre - 25
7 Hunt - 28
8 McAnuff - 30
9 McCarthy - 22
10 Kebe - 28
11 Gorkss - 30
12 Church - 23
13 Robson Kanu - 22
14 Harte - 34
15 Cummings - 23
16 Andersen - 23
17 Roberts - 34
18 McLeary - 25
19 Gunnarsson - 36
20 Mills - 22

I expect Antonio move go to Sheffield Wednesday which means we could sign another 5 players to bring the squad up to 25 (remember players like Sheppard, Obita and Hector are under 21 and we can carry any number of these younger players to supplement the squad)

Anyone aware of any changes to these rules since they were implemented...?

And also, for the record, most of those players count as home grown (around about 15)...so we have no troubles there

Is it under 21 or 21 and under? Karl Sheppard is 21 now.

Under 21 on 1/1/12 so Sheppard does not count in the 25. Nor does Morrison or Taylor.

You have missed Manset and Williams - although there is a fair chance neither will be with us by 1st Sept when the squad list is submitted.

I would be surprised to see Church and Gunnarsson in the 25 man squad to be honest. I think Tabb and Mills may also be on the borderline of not making it in, I think they would be the sacrifices if we bring enough players in.

So what do you do with them if no one comes in for them and they're still under contract? You could loan out Churchy but who would want Brynnar? Rabson Rovers?

They can still play in cup games and we'll be in the Premier Reserve League next year so there's potential for a few games. Bryn can still do a decent job lower down the leagues, could easily see someone like Brentford taking him for a month if they had an injury crisis.
