littlejohnnyoster Agreed! ironically, considering the relegation, this is the most positive i've felt at the start of a season for yonks

Yeah! I mean we could sign players on big wages..... or we could have to end up selling Leigertwood. I mean the list of things that could go wrong is endless!

True, but the likelihood of that happening is minute. Technically we're still in relegation season, out of the three teams that went down, we're collectively buzzing for next season. That is unusual for a team that has gone down. Obviously you still have some nutjob fans, the pessimists, the ones that crave to be against the grain.

Still, I'm 39 and been a Reading fan since day dot, I've not come across such positivity after a relegation to this extent. Ever.

Agreed, and I think a fair amount of that is because of the wave of optimism that the new manager has swept across the club. I'm not saying Nige will necessarily prove to be a better manager than McD (though I think he will), but his energy and positivity, as well as the new style of play, seems to have engaged both the playing staff and majority of fans.

Would we have been looking forward to next season as much had Anton not made the change when he did? I'm not so sure, and thus next season would have been harder as a result.

Things are all looking a bit too rosy atm though, so fully expecting (as a trained RFC fan) things to go completely downhill from here.

Great to see him do that, can't see a lot of chairmen doing the same.

melonhead im not sure on that wage bill correlation

it may be that higher wages result in more success, but could it not simply be that succesful teams end up paying their players more money?
which comes first and causes the other is up in the air imo

Man City started paying their players big money before they won anything. Likewise Chelsea. Likewise QPR- oh wait.

'78-97, 92% of the variation in the league positions of teams could be explained by wages, and from 98-07, it was 89% (over the top two leagues). There is a probably a bit of chicken and egg, or more like natural selection- unsuccessful clubs who pay big wages will have to stop, see Leicester, Leeds and QPR- but wage bill is still a very good predictor of future success.

Basically it all comes down to your management team and what they see in a player and having financial backing from the board if and when it is required.

Before AZ we basically had a the former but never the latter, now it looks like we are starting to have the latter as well which should mean exciting times.

I like him. He seems to be genuinely enjoying his purchase. Good on him.

He looks like a dude. If I was a multi-(m/b)illionaire in football, I'd like to think I was a bit like him.
Don't have to look far to see the type of horseshit that could have taken over instead.

If I was married to Kastia I would be far too busy to run a football club.

Did anyone watch him play on Saturday in that charity game? I didn't see much from him, Des Walker kept him him very quiet. That's to be expected really!!

While these subtle little jibes are becoming increasingly intelligent and humorous perhaps you could explain the accusations you are putting forward Floyd :!:

From the little I can find online without purchasing any financials from Companies House, it appears pretty clear that money has been paid to Sir John, with the loan debt owed to him by the club being reduced by £10m in the last fiscal year.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2126579_reading_fc_reduce_losses_to_under_2million

However, money owed to chairman Sir John Madejski was reduced by £10million.

Sir John’s loan now stands at £15,987,386, down from £26,301,575 in 2011.

Presumably part of the TSI agreement.

As a majority share in Reading Football Club was sold by Reading Football Club Holdings during this financial period, these results do not fully represent the position of Reading Football Club. For example, the loans mentioned are not related to the football club. The full relevant accounts will be filed at Companies House by the end of March

Now, I'm not expert, but it sounds pretty clear to me that 51% of Reading FC was sold, and I'd be interested to hear how such a sale went through (resulting in Sir John relinquishing his control over the club) without any form of payment being made.

But presumably you are some how ITK, so please share with the rest of the group. :)

At the risk of a massive whooshing, the payment would have been made from Zinga to Mad John without any transaction in the club accounts. The accounts would merely note the change of ownership.

So the implication would be that Sir John gave Anton the shares (as the change of ownership has been confirmed), and Anton didn't give any money in return?

Somehow I doubt Sir John would have sat idly by for a year if that was the case :!:

FranchiseFC is correct, in that the accounts don't show a great deal, aside from the amount of SJM's loan. As you pointed out, that has decreased significantly. Unless you know how the club arranged its finances, it's difficult to know how the deal went through. However, I think that Madejski converted his debt to shares, so we have tangible evidence (if the EP is to be believed) that a transaction took place.

Anyway, there'll always be people who are suspicious. At least all the conspiracy theories make the close season a bit more entertaining!

Atleast we were the best at something last season.

''The current Leeds manager had a tough Premier League campaign with relegated side Reading. One bright spot in his managerial record for the club, is that he had the most productive substitutes landing him the top spot on this list. With 10 goals and 17 assists from substitutes, it may bring into question why his substitutes were not playing from the start.''
