:| the club can't win, sign no-one or cheap players - no ambition
Show ambition sign one of the best players that this club could bring in for decent money - waste of money why have we spent so much on a loaned player

Exactly

I just don't understand why fans worry about what we buy/sell players for....its not our money and i'm sure the clever people who run the books know what they're doing

ScepticalRoyal What a signing! This has now 100% been the best transfer window I can remember. Guaranteed goals in the Champ with Vydra and if Hec goes I'd like another CB but even if that doesn't happen i'll be over the moon. URZ!

I recall other sayign somethign similar when we signed Pog, Williams and Drenthe a couple of years back - and look how THAT turned out!

Frankly Clarke is behaving like a spoilt kid in a toy shop just having been given some money from a rich uncle.

"I want that one .. and that one ... and one of those .... can I have another one of these please? PLEASE!?. No? Well what if I sell one my other toys ythat I've grown bored with, THEN can I have that nice new shiny one?"

Clarke is seriously pissing me off spunking up £3.5M on a loanee for 1 season, and funding it by flogging one of our future stars. Clarke is totally and utterly out of his depth.

Pog had a decent 6 goals in the premiership but nothing else to really go on, Vydra's been in the Champ for a few years and knows where the goal is far more than Pog does. If Hector has made way (23 years old isn't someone I'd consider a future star) for him then that's fine by me. The toy scenario you describe is in fact very much how transfers for every club apart from the top 4 work. and if it means decent experienced signings (which you can't argue from the stats of the players we've signed) then no problem.

Guess that's what those Pompey fans were thinking as well, and that club became a cancer on the sport we love...

Anyway, it is/ will be a great signing showing ambition etc, I just have a little niggle - once bitten etc, and I would hate for us to go the way that some other clubs have gone....

Portsmouth had Harry Redknapp in charge and paid stupid money for players. If/when we sell Hector, that pretty much covers this transfer (or you could say the wages saved on Pog).....so we haven't really lost out - especially if we get promoted.

Hornet here, hard to guess by username eh?

I've been watching Watford for nearly 40 years now and Vydra is up there in my top 3 strikers in that time. If the manager plays him constantly, (he didn't at WBA), and his agent shuts his mouth, (he hardly ever does), then you have yourselves one h*ll of a signing who'll score 20+ goals easily this season. One on one he's the best I've seen.

Why don't we keep him? Honestly, I don't know, but I'd guess it's because our owners have access to vast amounts of players across the World and what they're bringing in is scarily good, (make a big bet on us not going down). Also the home grown rule may come in to it.

What you're paying is worth it if his goals give you a shot at promotion. Keep him playing and happy and you'll be top 6 this season, he's that good.

Good luck for the season Royals, will be following you a bit more closely now.

West Ham have spent £7m on Michail Antonio, to put this into perspective

What a superb signing. No lose and plenty of upside. c GBP 3 million for the year that *might* get us in the play-offs as opposed to spunking GBP 6 mill on an asset.

Who would you prefer? That gangly, lazy and frankly not very good geezer from Brum, or the chappy that Wednesday have signed for a truly ridiculous amount of dosh who's not very good either, or Vydra who you just knew would score at least every other week with the Golden Boys? Complete no brainer.

Now, if we can add Hello John to the mix, with the wide attacking options and flair of the Boy from Brazil, the bod from Peru and, of course, the Iberian and, errr, Nick Blackman through the middle...... there won't be many teams that fancy facing any sort of combination of that lot.

Ship Porky Cox off to the Swine - how appropriate - get Hector back as cover at CB, and we can even afford to cash in on GMac.....

I'm really quite moist at the prospect of the rest of the season.

I did say Vydra would sign, £2m loan don't see what the fuss is about. Closest chance we have to having a striker who would get us 20 goals!

I think they are now just thrashing out the John deal and will confirm both signings at the same time - plus we still have 45mins for Hector/Cox/Blackman/HRK/McCleary to be purchased....

For those who are questioning the fee for Vydra...

2.2 million for a player who was promoted in this league last year and scored 16 goals.

Ross McCormack scored 17 goals last year in the same league against the same teams and Fulham recently rejected a £10 million bid from Wednesday.

The fee is relative to the current market and to anyone questioning why we are spending more on a loan than previously on a transfer clearly doesn't understand the current state of the transfer market in England.

If Vydra and John-Boy are confirmed, and we have Hector back on loan as back-up, then I wouldn't be at all fussed about losing Cox (obvs), HRK and GMac..... all wortha few pennies in the offset pot.

Surprisingly, would like Blackman to stay. I think with the expansive, exciting, attacking threat that the Jock has assembled (probably) in the last 24 hours, he would fit in very well.

It'll be interesting to hear what the rest of the Chump think of our new toys.....

Assuming that's Daddy Vydra on the left, but who's that in the foreground? Agent?

This is good. But I can't help but feel utterly underwhelmed after finding out we'll be losing Hector.

I know we needed a lot of work done, but it feels like Clarke has decided to just bin the entire squad he inherited and start from scratch. Apart from the reasonably prudent spending involved considering the names and numbers we've got in, it all feels a little bit QPR, which makes me feel dirty. And not in a good way.

Still, it is looking like a squad that could make the top six if they all settle and gel. That's quite a big if though.
