Pepe the Horseman It's also important to remember we didn't just boot out Clarke because of results. He'd gone to speak to someone else. Most people feel this made his position untenable with the owners, the players and the fans.

SC saw no future being at RFC. Why would anyone believe that he had the clubs interest at heart.

Pepe the Horseman I think you have to really scramble around for stats to suggest we've improved since McD. But the hope is there because its still early days with him, where as with Clarke we had been chugging along at this pace for too long.

You feel we have shown some promise here and there. And you have to give McD lots more games before we start calling him a lost cause.

Now where have I heard that before?

Going a goal down doesn't signal the end of the game for us anymore. I like that.

+1

In the past it was almost certainly game over, the fans knew it, the players knew it. Whilst we still haven't quite got there yet (in the league come back win) there is already a sense of optimism even a goal down.

If anything demonstrates that we are getting a bit of fighting spirit back it's this.

Hampshire Royal Just out of interest, why do you call Robson-Kanu 'Kanu'. It's part of his name, for sure, but it's not his name. Seems a bit disrespectful, if you ask me.

I thought he played really well yesterday, and was part of the reason why we had a good second-half against a good team.

Not sure why you bothered to post that-have you done the same on the "Gunts" topic and said that it is disrespectful by not using his full name?
Disrespectful?
This is a player who has one good game in 20 and disrespects the fans of my club by not trying very hard and not scoring any league goals.
Why do you think there is a whole thread using the disrespectful (?) moniker of HRK asking what is the point of him?

You make no comment on Brian's return (or is it disrespectful in your world to refer to him as Brian?) which is what this topic is about.
Nice to know that you went to the game yesterday and saw our no. 9 playing less bad than normal-if you had been to many of the other games you would have been tearing your hair out like the rest of us as we slipped further down the table.

The shame is that there is a half-decent player in there somewhere but after 8 years or so IMHO it is time for us to call it a day with him as he just doesn't do enough on a regular basis for us.

SC didn't approach Fulham, they approached us. Why shouldn't he talk to them ? Don't you try and better yourself ? Fact is he didn't accept any offer, if in fact there was one, but that didn't stop someone feeding stories to the press. All very strange bit like the mystery around the disappearing Terry Burton, club remain very silent on that as well unless I've missed something ...

'Gunts' is a (sort of) nickname HRK is the same. Brian is McDermott's first name and is used by many on here because, well, just because. I have never seen or heard of anyone calling Robson-Kanu 'Kanu'.

I know you don't like Brian's style of football, and are very disappointed that we don't play like Barcelona, but that's the way it is. You actually said that we played like Barca on Saturday, except that it was too slow. When HRK went onto the wing, and Williams came into the middle, we were a better team than Wednesday, and certainly played better than we did in the first half. It would be easy for you to say that Wednesday were down to ten men, through no fault of ours, and, in any case, it's been seen so many times in football at every level that eleven men struggle against ten. I don't know why, but it is the case.

Still, it's nice to see that you are still trying to make a name for yourself by saying 'controversial' stuff. Keep at it, you may succeed one day!!

And, oh yes, I've got a half season-ticket for myself and my son and will be coming to more games now.

Wednesday down to 10 men?
Are you sure you were there?
Incidentally if you read my latest and earlier posts you will see that I said that Brian needs to be given time so not sure where you are coming from so I'll say it again,I think Brian needs time and will be judged next season and not this.

BTW I am far from being controversial in suggesting that it will be best for the club if Gunts and Kanu move on-from other topics it appears that many others feel the same.

The most controversial thing I've read on here for a while is that people don't use Kanu as a short form for Robson-Kanu.

What a ridiculous thing say and to get your self in a tizzy over!

Why else would you go and talk to a prospective employer.

It's just that Victor doesn't like HRK, so, it's my belief that he calls him 'Kanu' rather than use his real name or an acknowledged nickname is his way of underlining his irrational dislike of the player.

I don't really care, it's just that I posted my little riposte to ask why he uses that name for him. That's all, nothing more, no hidden agenda or anything.

For the reason Nigel Howe explained quite openly at the time. Because they remember what has happened in the past and would rather not cause disruption fighting the inevitable if someone decides their commitment isn't to Reading. So we give them the option, making clear we want them to stay and would prefer them not to speak to the other club.

Something that is not unreasonable to expect for a manager who is three months into the season having being given the opportunity to completely overhaul the squad in the pursuit of promotion, after significantly under-performed in his time at the club in the previous season, despite talking up a good game.

Fair enough, point still stands that what you said was ridiculous though. Plenty of people have and do refer to Robson-Kanu as Kanu so it strikes me as amazingly over sensitive to suggest the name is used by Victor to belittle him.

Rather have Nwankwo Kanu, being African he must be about 26/27 by now... in the prime of his career.
