NathStPaul Why is his skin colour so important to you?

I think it's reference to the facts that he I think (might be corrected) was the first black England captain, the first black top flight manager and now the first black RFC manager (again, might be wrong but can't think of another) so that's a good thing for us as a club I think especially when you look at our player demographics.

Shouldn't matter really of course, it's just a minor interesting point. I wouldn't have mentioned it without clarifying why tbh.

Premiership fixation and rewrite of history

Tony Collins was the first black manager

And ex-RFC legend Keith Curle managed in the equivalent of League One at the very start of his career

Nothing to do with rugby Uke

Not that I care too much (as I say glad to be corrected as I'm no historian) but so I can be educated on how I may have accidentally rewritten history as you suggest.. Are you saying my facts are wrong? Was Tony Collins top flight? Did Keith Curle manage Reading?

It’s the obsession with “Top Flight” as in the Prem - not sure that management skills are as important when you have massive budgets, stats and teams of staff.

There are many top class managers who aren’t “top flight”

And given the number of leagues below, then Division 2/3 are top tiers.

And Ince’s best work was not at “top flight”

Ok cool so to clarify nothing I said was wrong or a rewrite of history.

(Btw I wasn't making any comments on whether it's better to be top flight manager or not, merely stating the fact as it relates to Ince trying to explain the possible thinking behind TGP bringing up his skin colour. )

I salute the appointment of Paul Ince. On one knee with a fist in the air, naturally.

Not the first, or the last time, that name and helm will be mentioned in the same sentence surely?

Anyone else find it strange we haven't had an interview from Ince or Gilkes? Worried that they're close to appointing a permanent manager and my other thread will have been a complete waste of time.

Think we'll get it later today. Players might've had a day off/very light training yesterday with the next game being Tuesday, and he is only taking his first proper training session today. Would imagine that he probably wants to do it after having met all the players.

We had a pretty long interview with Gilkes the other week, so doubt there is too much to add and they might've wanted to do the interview together.

Yeh fair point. It feels like it's been ages but it hasn't really. Obviously wasn't going to happen on Saturday night, and like you say, would've been a quiet day yesterday. Surprised they haven't given it the biggun with his achievements etc, but maybe they're trying to play it down as it is just interim (for now...).

They've just tweeted a preview, for "Ince and Gilkes' first game in the dugout", so very much focusing on the joint effort.

Good interview.

Let slip that he's here until the end of the season I think, realised then quickly added "or however long I'm here for". Fact that there will be another couple of coaches joining suggests that will be the case.

Suggests it will be someone who knows how he works, so who has he worked with previously?

Seems like Ince was the only dad on the touchline not looking down at his shoes when they were looking for someone to take over....

Straight talking, down to earth, no bullshit.

Seems to have ideas about our frailties and wants to work on them ASAP.

Accepts some games won't be pretty but just have to fight. I can see how this honest no nonsense attitude will rub off on the players in a positive way.

Most importantly bigs up the fans, club and players at every opportunity.

Can't ask for more from the lad.

More boringly, probably someone like Alex Rae - who hasn't been in football since being fired as St Mirren boss in 2016.
