Just like last season,Liverpool's mainly reserve side is better than our mainly reserve side.
A very entertaining game and Sky must have been pleased to have picked this one.
Coppell delighted presumably that we now only have 33(?) games left (after one FA Cup game) over the next 33 weeks or so and none of the players will need much resting with just a few internationals to be played.

I thought Federici just tried to make himself big. Many lesser strikers would have shot early or given away which way they were going to dart giving him a chance. Torres just danced from one foot to the other perfectly balanced as he approached and Federici didn't know where he was going. At least he remained big. Normally the amount of time he stalled Torres for would have allowed a defender time to get back and make a challenge...

I think it is a little unfair to criticise him for that one.

Totally agree with the comments that Convey's goal should stand. Irrespective of whether four of our players were offside the keeper would have to be superman to have saved the shot from where he was standing. I cannot believe he would have made the save if none of our players were offside..not that Sky commentators were prepared to point this out.

A big LOL at anyone who says Convey goal should stand. Officials got that wrong end of.

Before anyone moans at refs again - consider the fact that tonight we got the rub of the green

Convey - goal offside
Halls - goal offside
Torres - penalty -
Bikey - should of been 2 yellows and off!!

What i would say is that Halls "disallowed goal" - the header back came from a liverpool - dont think anyone picked that up?

Anyway - as always gutted we lost....but next game up Pompey is what its all about.

The commentators tonight were dreadful.Okay,Torres was the star man, absolute quality but had he done the overhead kick that Lita did they would have been wetting themselves but hardly a mention of the skill it takes to execute such an act.

After all it was only Leroy Lita!

Agree DHL.....they were talking about how cynical the team was...a bit harsh in my eyes. Yes Torres knew the defenders were around and he had a tough ride but I rather expect he will get a lot more of that in the coming months and fair play to him he looks good enough and brave enough to handle it.

Shane Long has never looked good enough for this level, and didn't tonight. Lita looked more like a Premiership striker than he has at all since Man City away last season.

Henry looked composed when he came on, and more physical presence that I expected. Looks a good dead-ball player too. Promising.

Bikey and Fae - both looking like fairly accomplished players and they had decent games, with smatterings of amateurishness.

A decent enough performance that we will need to at least repeat to get something from Fratton Park.

Torres was a class above. I am not sure what g and Readingfanman have been on tonight (the sauce does do funny things to kids) but their comments on this thread are disgraceful and the sort that should lead to immediate bans.

Who was the summariser? I can never remember his name... The only thing I know for sure is that he's a total bell-end. It's nice that we still get described as 'plucky' as well!

Exactly. Barely 5 minutes earlier he'd done the same thing and saved from Yossi.

We got done by 23m worth of footballer playing at the top of his game tonight. Apart from that the rest of the game was evenly matched.

Despite not being able to neither watch nor listen to the game tonight, to conform, I agree.

My first game for a year (was in Oz) and I still can't understand why we still have this loser at the club, were we playing him to put him in the window to potential div 2 buyers?

The keeper was in front of the Reading player though, although I'm sure the Reading player offside wasn't interfering.

Pardon my ignorance and I have only seen the goalonce, but what was wrong with it?

You said it was offside.... I know we had a player further forward than 2 of Liverpools defending players but he wasnt interfering with play.

Please explain to us less knowledgable.

Well - we now all agree he was standing in an offside position as he was in front of the last but one defender....

the fact that (i think it was Duberry) stepped over the ball (must of nearly touched him) 2 yards out from the goal line is enough for me to be interfering with play - particulary as a defender was on the line about to defend the ball.

Like i say...only saw it the once and thought our attacker (Doobs) was close to the ball but their defender was on the opposite side of the goal and nowhere near the ball making (Doobs) position irrelevant.

Infact it is all totally irrelevant as we lost anyway and the actual point was that bar the goal and a couple of decent crosses Halls was utter cack as someone has previously stated he cant run, cant tackle, has no pace and worst of all for a defender...can't defend.
