Interstingly enough Spacey, Neil Warnock still claims the Wigan side of 04/05 that got promoted were better than the Reading side of 05/06.

Yeah but he still claims the Sheff Utd sides of 05/06 & 06/07 was better than the Reading sides of 05/06 & 06/07 so i'm not sure i'll take his opinion as gospel.

2005/06 16 points better, beat them at home and drew away
2006/07 17 points better, beat them at home and away.

Bless him.

I think the last time they beat us was at our place in the 2002/3 season when we came up from Division Two.

Let me go to soccerbase and check that....

EDIT: Yes, I am right: http://www.soccerbase.com/head2.sd?team ... am1id=2125

2nd favourites!!!!

Well I punted £40 at 7/1 that we'd get relegated last August and none of the winnings will be wasted backing us to go up, with the idiot Coppell in charge.

Strictly speaking that is £280 extra, as the stake was his to start with. Pedantic I know - but the truth often is!

Sorry I wasn't trying to suggest Scarface was educationally subnormal. Just I'm Mad.

I am not going to disagree with you in principle. However, as a financial transaction he has only gained £280 from the start state. In essence he has invested £40 in a high risk venture that could have resulted in a total loss, but actually came good. Either way he is only £280 up. :D

FACT.

OPINION.

Over the last two seasons, Coppell's team has finished above Jewell's team. Also, Coppell has won the Manager of the Year twice in a row. Can you argue against those facts?

Go back a year or two and you find Jewell finishing above Coppell.
Hardly fair to count last season. They were all but relegated when he took over.....

But I believe SC is the best manager around - this does not make it a fact though.

They weren't even in the same division then.

So because Fergie isn't in the same division as Dario Grady and never has been to my knowledge you can't say who is the better manager?

I think Coppell is better as well. But cherry picking a couple of seasons that help prove your point and ignoring at least 2 that show the opposite makes you look silly.

If you want to add in 2001/2002 when Coppell's Brentford ended up well above Jewells Wigan in the same division then there is another one for Sir Steve...by far the greatest manager that Reading has ever seen!!!!!

Indeed - we shall see come the end of next season. I hope for our sake you're right Spacey, but I can't see a team with no wingers or central midfield gaining promotion somehow unless there's a mass overhaul.

Three of the main contributors to our last (excellent season and Coppell's main achievement at RFC) promotion were Sidwell's grit, determination and creativity in the middle and Convey and Little's superb seasons. We're now without any of those three for the foreseeable future and you expect by some form of wizardry that Coppell will take us back up.

As much as I enjoy sweet dreams, it's not gonna happen I'm afraid.

Oh, and it might be interesting for you to look at the fortuity of Norwich bidding £500k for the most overrated player in our squad back then for Convey to flourish - I pray that Sunderland offer decent money for Stephen Hunt, the winger who can't beat a man, cross or shoot but somehow is critically acclaimed by our deluded support in order for us to strengthen where is critically required.
