My point about Hull and Stoke surviving by the skin of their teeth, is that they were recently promoted clubs. A more established club will find it easier to then pull itself up the table and away from the fight for the next season or so. See Pompey and West Ham recently, possibly Wigan the season Sheffield went down?

Hull and Stoke barely survived AND have the tougher second season ahead of them. You'd have to fancy them to both be in the fight for certain.

The point abut more clubs looking at relegation than top spots was a dig at the supposed best league in the world.

Surely the length of time a club has been in the league has very little bearing on the ability to pull away

Its more about their ability to improve the squad and get more out of the players already in it. That isnt really linked to the time they have been in the league

It's pretty directly linked given it's all about finances and the PL is such a cash cow. But even in that case as far as I'm aware neither Hull, nor Stoke have fabulously wealthy sugar daddies. And there is a recession on which is only likely to accentuate that.

I'd be quite surprised if Hull reversed their 2009 form. I think it's going to be a long miserable season for them. Stoke, however, seemed to have discovered the right formula in the last two or three months. I'd think they're quit likely to have a better season.

Turning down the likes of Fulham for Wolves is looking like a big error now.....

Doesn't look as if he will be going to the World Cup finals either.

Well I asked the question because I think he has started pretty much every game for Wolves.

I think it was more of the fact that he was rested last week. Plus the words "pretty much" give away that he hasn't played every game

Ah I shall retract my comment then as I didn't hear that and just assumed that it was because he was rested.

tbf he probably was- then just said to a journo that his head still wasnt right after the ireland game, and the vulture twisted it into "doyle cant be bothered to play for his wage paying club due to being a bit upset"

But the Pl's not a cash cow- that's the great paradox that very few people seem to be able to get their heads around.

Yes, the income is massive in comparison to being in other leagues - but so are the wages bills necessary to even try and compete there. So the net effect is zero....
