SPARTA Still no official quotes from Hammond, Adkins etc about Drenthe's signing. Bit odd considering just how big a signing this is. I'd have thought the club would want to be shouting from the roof tops about this, especially with season tickets on sale...

I guessing its because of his past, lets be honest he aint the typical Reading signing

Ok then,
How would you point out a black guy in a room of similarly dressed people to someone who asked "which one is Alan"
In this context Alan is the black guy and you are not allowed to walk over and introduce them.

Genuine question, what is the least offensive term to use

The tall one, the one on the left, the one closest to whatever, the one talking to whoever, the one with the tattoo, the one with a hat on, damn there is a million ways you could point them out without referring to skin colour

Balls. If he's the only black person there, it's the easiest way of describing him. Just as if there's a group of black people and one white person, the easiest way of pointing out who you're talking about is by saying "the white guy". Black isn't offensive and doesn't have a history of being used as a racial slur in the same way as Darkie, Coloured, Nigger, Negro, Nig nog etc all do. I've never known someone who's black be offended by being described as black.

72 bus is being a knob, but talk about over-compensating.

Are you really saying you can't describe someone by their skin colour? Is "the tanned guy" racist? "The pale one"? "The asian one"? "The one with olive skin"? What about hair colour? That's a racial charactistic as well.

The original argument was if Negro is offensive or not, which you have just stated is wrong, end of story

Sorry, but I thought I left school like 12 years ago. Don't you have nothing better to do than pick up on a few poxy spelling mistakes

If you left school 12 years ago it is fair for us to assume that you can write reasonably grammatical English.

I expect they're waiting for the last piece of paperwork to go through which I presume will be the renowned "international clearance"

I don't think he's actually signed anything yet has he? I'm sure we would have seen the pictures by now if he had.

RFC have said they have "reached an agreement" subject to international clearance and ratification by his old club, and that Drenthe is "set to sign".

Unless you are speaking spanish in which case negro does actually translate into "black"

TheLawnMowerMan The same way you would regardless of the racial mix of the people in the room.
E.g. Alan is the third from the right, or Alan is the one talking to Jeff.

Ok then lets turn this around.
Alan (the black guy) is taking a telephone call in his office, the bloke on the other end is setting up a visit with alan.
Bloke: "when I arrive at your office alan, how will I know who you are?"
Alan: you can't miss me mate, I am the black guy sat at the far end of the office"

Do any of you really think this does not happen in the real world ?
It seems that only white folk over react to these things, the black folks that I work with do not honestly give a toss

I get what you're saying, everyone is different I guess and while one may find it offensive, another may not
