Extended-Phenotype Anton once again lets us down and yet we are supposed to believe him over Brian? This window changes everything.

^ This. With neon flashing lights and ALARM BELLS ringing.

The press conference when NA was unveiled and AZ fielded - appalingly badly - questions about investment and more than hinted that actually McD had somehow failed to spend some imaginary funds was quite the most risible event in RFC history since Robert Maxwell's efforts nearly 30 years before this.

Some of us pointed this out at the time of course 8)

We sure as hell did.

Obvious then. Obvious now. Still, a significant minority on here are plain thick...or gullible (or both).

Anton, you're a c*nt. why get rid of a proven shoestring manager to bring in a big bucks manager when you don't give him the big bucks? Might as well have stayed with poor Brian.

Are you a stupid child? Oh yes you are. Stupid and a child.

Yeah, obviously but still good to see some of those who were attacking Brian are seeing the light.

Tbf That has to do with the original recruitment of Brian as manager and the success he ultimately had, which 2ww didn't think would happen at the time, rather than the end of his time here.

Brian was undone to an extent by the players once his team had stepped up in class. It was a great effort to lose Long and still gain promotion the following season, however, it was quite clear from that play-off final that the astute teams in the Premier League (which Swansea went on to become) would not find it difficult to undo his limited ability side.

Guthrie and Pog certainly didn't do him any favours, being as they were supposed to help bridge the huge gulf in ability level between RFC and the other PL teams. His signings became increasingly desperate although some are/were better than they showed for him. Even with significant funding it's not clear whether quality players would want to play under Brian's style and you can imagine a lot of the bad blood existed because of this - mainly between his loyal servant players and the one's who are used to a higher calibre of football. Only time will tell if Adkins can shape a side capable of being competitive beyond the muck and nettles of the Championship, Interesting to see if Brian can do the same elsewhere.

In terms of the timing of Adkins coming in and assessing the squad etc, have none of you noticed that we released a number of players from last year and have evolved our way of playing quite significantly (not yet totally successfully of course) in what is still quite a short space of time.

Bringing Adkins in when we did meant that allowing Carrico, Tabb, Harte, Shorey, Church etc to leave was down to the manager and not the DoF as it was when pre-Rodgers and Adkins was given the chance to build bridges with some of the players he wanted to keep who may otherwise have left (players like McCarthy, Guthrie, Pearce, Karacan who will all play a key part in the rebuilding).

No doubt we need to add further to this squad, but we've now got 23/24 first team players plus a number of decent young academy products. For the most part these are players the manager wants and presumably they're players who want to be here (a few notable exceptions no doubt).

That and the changes in the way the first team play are important for the future.

Think the game's on Weds mate.

Still, at least this thread will be settled one way or another by full-time.

Unless it's a draw, in which case we rollover to the away fixture.

Only for those bricking it for fear of being made to look rather stupid (and their silence speaks volumes :P)

Meanwhile, back on planet earth, to have any credibility this thread needs to run until at least the end of the season unless Adkins loses his job.
