You can't hang on to every youth player that comes through in the hope that they become a great player, for every Gylfi there's numerous Peter Castles and Neville Roachs (remember him?). Sometimes you will find you have a Simon Cox scenario, you let one go who comes back to bite you but most often you don't. Good Luck to Uche at Watford, no one knows what he was offered to stay, or why he chose to go. From the sounds of it he has a lot more development to go, his game seems to be built around using his height and weight to bully defenders and he scored a hat full of goals doing it last season. However, when he met a defender with the same physical presence as himself he was kept quiet. It is at that point that you have to have a little something extra to your game, a Plan B if you will. At this stage he does not seem to have that, and if Fulham's youth CB can keep him quiet, the more experienced CBs in this division probably will be able to too. It is a shame he went, but I am not overly upset he has.

Norfolk Royal This sounds poor to me. If he has shown promise why aren't we hanging onto him? Is there some sort of statement from the club on this?

Agreed! I am furious about this! He was a VERY good prospect for the future. We should have had him tied down to a 3 year contract. IF we had lost him to a decent sized club then fair enough but to lose him to Watford is beyond a joke! To lose him for nothing a big kick in the balls for all at the club. I for one will BOO like there is no tomorrow when he visits the Mad Stad in that bloody Watford shirt. I guess the only reason for him going there would be to get first team football.

Hammond has to take the blame for this! This is a big loss. Think his neck will be next for chopping if he makes another blunder. Huge blunder RFC!!

Lol, Dolan would have been the man behind the majority of the decisions on Uche's contract.

He'd have been making recommendations certainly

Who have we got from Hull?

Yep but I thought Ikpeazu would be in our first team squad this coming season. Madness.

The thing is that to be in that squad Ikpeazu would have to be at the level where he could mix it with our CBs, Marriapa, Pearce and Morrison, and there is Gorkss, and yet it seems apparent from those that have watched him a lot on this thread (and other places) that he was nowhere near this standard yet. At a guess I would say his contract offer probably reflected that, whereas Watford need (cheap?) players and so might have made his a more tempting offer. He would have a reputation after last season, and scouts would have been aware of his situation. At first glance, Watford are in a spot of bother because of the number of loan players they had so they may be casting their net out to bolster the squad. It's alright to say he could have been in the matchday squad, but not if his appearances showed him up to not be of a good enough standard at this time. One season does not a career make.

Looks like we snapped Cardwell up quite early. Rumours going around in February he'd already signed for us..

Funny how whenever a player leaves people always say they were no good anyway.

To be fair, look back at my comments in early June re Ikpeazu and you'll see I've remained consistent.

I'd say I'd rather have the Reading local lad than the Hull player but Ikpeazu wasn't a local lad anyway was he, so it doesn't really matter in that respect.
