Mr Angry I think Jay Tabb's arrival is great news for the club, and one that can only add to the strength of the squad.

If it is to signal the departure of someone, I suspect it would be either Convey or Marek. I suspect that SHunt is a totally seperate issue in the mind of Coppell/Hammond.

Not sure. I think this lot have got way too much in common.

They've all signed for Reading?
Most of those names have been failures to a certain degree here. Except Makin and Tabb.

Glad to see we have brought someone in, even happier it is Tabb. Always rated him, will be good to see him in the hoops.

None of them ever really established themselves, I fear Tabb could be the same. I'm not sure what Coppell has in mind with another nippy little midfielder. What's he here for?

But Tabb has already regularly for a decent Championship club (and was their player of the year last season) and is a good age.

That doesn't hold for the other players mentioned.

RG30 hopefully it will allow James Henry to go out on loan and continue his development.
Here's hoping - maybe Parky will take him ?

Possibly. My money would be on B Rodgers taking him on loan at Watford where he could also join up with one of his England chums J Cork.

Would be good for Henry to get a regular run of games to continue his development for us now that tabb has arrived. Assuming we don't lose S Hunt otherwise we will need wing cover.

My Brighton supporting mate says he was mentioned on an Albion message board earlier today about a potential move, whether the story had any foundation to it remains to be seen but from what I remember Nick Hammond did give an interview towards the back end of last year talking about the need for him to get the games.

What makes you think he's "nippy" :|

He has a lot of talent but isn't very quick but plays anywhere in midfield happily employing either foot.

He's also established himself at his last 2 clubs and was player of the season for Coventry in 2007-8.

So, basically, he has very little in common with your list of former Reading players and you clearly know sod all about him.

Stephen Hunt

To be fair no-one in that list had established themselves in the Championship before they came to us. Tabb has been playing Championship for a while, and even picked up Coventrys player of the season award, so i'd say he's got a much better chance of progressing than those players did (but then he could turn out to be another John Halls....)

What needs to be said on this current point is anyone that considered Makin as a poor player for us clearly never saw the bloke play.

Imagine my surprise when I find out today we have signed Frank Spencer!

Makin, Stack and Brooker had all performed quite well in the Championship for previous clubs before we signed them.

As for Makin not being an established player.....he had a wealth of experience and had played consistently well in the Premiership too! Personally I don't think he was a failure here though, he did exactly what we bought him to do.

Didn't most of those players do pretty much what was expected of them ?

None were brought in as first X1 starters.....

I think you'd have to say that Brooker, Sodje and Bennett were failures.

Brooker was bought to play as we didn't really have a left winger at the time. The other two were bought to supplement the squad but were found lacking in the necessary quality to be trusted in the first team or just didn't improve enough to get close to playing.

Stack might've been expected to put more pressure on Marcus, but he was still a valuable member of the squad and kept Marcus on his toes.

Makin was a success though.

Totally agree, which makes this random list of former players even more pointless.

Am pleased with the signing of a ball player and I think he offers something a bit different,a Marek type who also can play out wide.
Perhaps we shouldn't take too much notice of the Coventry "Player of the year" bearing in mind our own player of the year award last year.

I haven't read all this thread, but has anyone mentioned the fact that having another Rep of Ireland player might prove a problem when we have to play a certain number of British players in the team (next season isn't it? We've got Armstrong and Harper who would play most of the time, where are the other two Brits coming from? Lita?? Kelly?? Murty??)

Like Stephen Hunt, he's been in England since he was an apprentice so would qualify, plus I think he was born in England anyway.

EDIT - He was born in Tooting.
