Hampshire Royal I think Elton John performs a concert at Vicarage Road every year and gives all the proceeds to Watford.

yeah cmon sir john, get your guitar out

As I've mentioned previously, it was stated that JM paid the £1 million for Lita out of his own money. Not sure how that is shown on the accounts, mind.

i know thats how it was spun- but ive always assumed that while he got the 1 million from out of his own pocket, he always expected it back, and the use of the word gift was a bit of spin
cant eb sure though

Red Let's face it, if you start out with a sh!t load of money you've not got to be brains of britain (or Russia) to make more.

Fair enough.. although he is investing in a football club

I doubt he sees it as an investment, or at least that's not his primary objective.

Hampshire Royal Has his promise to 'give something back to the local community' been fulfilled yet (bearing in mind that at the time he took over we were nearly out of business, and now we are a pretty well-established club which has been to the PL and is consistently pushing to get back there)?

John Madejski Academy?

the point is however that we (the football club) has paid for all of that. sjm's loans were just that, and have or are being repaid. none of it was a gift. yes you can argue he still had to put the money up at the time and continue to do so for many years, but he still got that money back.

I consider that to be an odd view. The truth is that without him the club could have folded. There was never any guarantee he would get his money back, in fact it has looked for quite a time as if he would not.
You also overlook the fact that as well as loans of £26 million he has also an equity value of another £15 million. So he has not got his money back even if you assume the whole £25 million from the Russian goes into his pocket. You don't know how much of that investment includes sums for buying players, investing in the academy and the other things they have mentioned.

Ideal Give it up, you bunch of moaners!
£25M is nothing for a club of this value.
By value I mean it is not in debt, it has a good stadium, it has a good fanbase, in a good location, has history even if never won the league, and in general it is simply a bargain for £25M.

Why do you need to moan? Why? Why do you hate JM so much, even after all he has done for us?
If it were not for him, would we ever have the 106? No, we'd be in the 3rd or 4th tier, yada yada yada and so on.

I'm tired of you knobjockeys constantly barracking JM, the man is a legend - END OF.

I agree with every word Ideal says here!!

The World's gone mad.
