I don't really care at all, but you said no-one had actually said that, when they had.

winchester_royal 'He ended up playing in the Russian second division'

I'm not sure it was.

LOL @ faux quoting. No one even said that!

upthetoffees One thing for sure is though when he left us Madrid gave him a free transfer and no one seemed that keen on him to the point he ended up playing in the Russian 2nd Division which to me tells you a lot about what you need to know.

Apologies for causing some in-house fighting, yes he played in the Russian top flight, I meant he played for a club that were relegated to the second tier.
Anyway, I think you get what I was getting at, He went from playing on loan at Everton where he was booted out in April 2012 and then dissapeared until December 2012 when he signed for a club bottom of the Russian league. Makes me think there are more to the stories of his wild behaviour that no one else seemed to take a chance

PS. Loving the classic rival fan contribution, who takes all the trouble of finding a Reading forum, setting up an account to post a lengthy 'warning' to quash our excitement in signing a particular player.

I'll never understand why some people get so stressed by other people's joy.

I h8 to burst your pessimism bubble bud, but we're all quite aware of his 'troubled' past. Fact of the matter is we wouldn't have had a hope in hell of signing a player of his quality if there weren't some question marks over his character (which have no doubt been amplified by media sensationalism/word of mouth), we just have to hope he's matured now to a stage where he will be a significant asset, and ftr I don't think NA/NH would have signed off on this if they weren't confident that this will be the case.

Thanks for your contribution anyway, how're you lot viewing the progress being made by Martinez during pre-season?

TBM: Maybe the realisation of playing in the Russian 2nd tier is enough to give him a kick up the arse.

Urz13: Russian 1st division actually, they just got relegated.

SB: I think that's what he (TBM) was suggesting.

Winch: (quotes Toffee) "He ended up playing in the Russian second division" I'm not sure it was.

A Misunderstanding of non-hilarious proportions.

The fact he went to all this trouble to piss on some strangers' parade makes me think a 'f/ck off newbie' could push him to attach a hose to his exhaust.

Am I the only one who hopes he does turn out to be a bad'un, if only to lift the abject tedium of the past 12 months or so? I am hoping at the very least that he ends up pranging an expensive motor on the IDR or something.

I'm not falling for this faux-politeness. It doesn't cloak the bitter "you've signed a turkey" diatribe most probably inspired by his own teams woeful transfer policy of signing Wigan players which make them look more like a relegated side than supposed top four hopefuls.

Playing down the ability of everyone else's transfers is a really tedious way of making your own signings seem reasonable. Certainly won't change the direction Everton are inevitably heading now they are without Moyes.

You may be right about the misunderstanding E-P, but I was still accused of making up quotes which I have shown is not the case, and unless I get a very public retraction and apology I shall be suing for deformation of character.

It still could be possible that your misquoting was deliberate, even if the words were real. I wouldn't pursue this in the courts if I were you.

There is no pissing on anyones parade, I came in peace to see what you guys felt about the signing. He's clearly a player that divides opinion

I've stated that for the record I hope he does the business with you and gets you back in the premier league and I also said that if Atkins can do what Moyes and Mourihino failed to do then you've got a hell of a player on your hands.

I believe if he feels the love and can keep out of trouble his transfer value would be £15m +, he's head and shoulders above other wingers I can think of that have moved for big dollors like Scott Sinclair.

If we draw you in the cup, would he get a bigger boo or cheer from you guys?!
