Elm Park Kid Can we assume that if we get through today without Brian being sacked that he'll be the manager until Christmas at least?

Why today?

Longhorn1970
Top Flight I'll be happy with that Ian, for next season. I'll support the club to the maximum and if Brian keeps us up, then I'll gladly buy him a few pints.

If he can navigate us to a season of safety following this huge summer of transformation then I won't be moaning.
Hopefully then, the following year we can push on and make a bid for the play offs.

somehow doubt that's the script he's been given, I sense the owners will want some progress quickly (if they stick with him and if they don't sell up) especially after the tedium since he took over ..

Because McDermott was due to meet with the owners this week.

Ah - On his webchat today:

CW - "Whispers I am getting is that there are more talks planned for next week, with the pre-season details, etc, being discussed. If they are going to make a change, you would think it would have to be before plans are put in place for the summer."

Of course they won't sack McDermott.

The whole idea of firing him is completely ridiculous.

If they were going to sack him they wouldn't fly from Thailand to do it - they'd get Howe to do it like they did with Clarke

Brian isnt going anywhere.

Nothing worth selling, nothing worth buying, absolutely no expectations and a lot of kids desperate to play. It's not like it's a gamble either way. Save the money and keep Brian.

To me and to the silent majority. It is only you that wants Brian out Longhorn. You, the Chelsea fan and Royally Fcuked up. The rest of us are blindly loyal members of the "We Love Brian!" fan club. Brian is hugely respected and revered by all of us fanboys. And we make up 99.32% of Reading's supporter base.

Nah mate. Plenty on here who don't want him but can't be arsed to argue the toss with you.

Didn't want him in the first place and have no idea why he's still here. The sooner he goes the better.

And TF, you're going to look a bit silly when it does happen

Now that is deluded crazy talk, it actually seems like you're trolling

I'd say its about 60-40% in favour of Brian, maybe a bit more. A lot of fans don't think it was the right decision to bring him back in the first place even if they are prepared to give him time now he is here, or resigned to the fact they probably have to.

This forum does not represent the thoughts of our fanbase, just a tiny percentage of it.

Thought you had to be lol.

I know Kes is a troll but sometimes he can make a point. Longhorn seemed genuinely in the 'McDermott not the right man' camp.

Talk of sacking McDermott is totally nonsense.

I understand McDermott has convinced the owners he inherited an absolute mess and the club footballing side is pretty rotten. Rotten through bad signings and loan players.

Brian has identified characters that need to be released, who needs to come in with budget permitting and that his management style and track record will bring about stability and success again.

Club have already announced youth is the way forward. Brian has those credentials and will clearly be given time to take his proposals forward.

He ain't going anywhere. Enjoy your summer.

Reading fans are obviously split over this but surely both camps would agree that the last few months have been party to a lot of noise which makes conclusive judgement on Brian difficult.

The real test, as we all know, starts now. Put the season (and this repetitive, circular, groundhog thread) behind us, wipe the slate clean and see where he takes us once he has had a chance to put his team together.

We may all have our hunches, but none of us know how things will go next season. There is little point arguing about whether circumstance or ability is behind our poor form in a season which doesn't matter: with circumstances No longer an excuse, we shall all see what the manager is really made of in the coming months, and I expect we all agree we want to see him and the club do well.

Top Flight As long as we're 4th from bottom or above by December the 12th, then I extend my goodwill towards Brian until the end of the season.

I don't think you'll find (m)any other folk prepared to agree with that.
