Ian Royal Davies' long shots > Howard's
Davies' pace > Howard's
Davies' counter attacking threat > Howard's

Davies going out on loan = predictable but stupid. Howard is the one we should be dumping. Davies is more dangerous in the middle and more useful on the flanks. He's more likely to improve with a run in the team.

I'm in no way a Howard fan by the way, and I've seen nothing from him to change my opinion that his signing was and will prove to be a poor one. However, I think he complements the system and the other midfielders better than Davies and his all round play is of a higher standard than Davies so for the short term I'd agree that his place in the side over and above Davies is warrented. Over and above some of our other central midfielders? Not so convinced!

In a fit of Snowball'esqu qualification of Davies shooting ability...according to the clubs stats (as insignificant as I think they are) Davies had 7 shots on goal for the first team, only one of those was on target. Howards isn't much better by the way, 3 from 12, but I really don't think Davies going out on loan is a bad thing.

Good thing in that he isn't going to play, but I personally would much rather player a midfield 4 of Davies, Karacan, Siggurdsson and McAnuff, using Kebe as a killer second half sub. Davies on the right to give a bit more bite and resilience than two wingers would.

I'm unconvinced Howard should even play in the current system ahead of Davies. Again personally I'd have Karacan, Davies and Siggurdsson as the central three. Very light on experience admittedly.

Like you say, very light on experience but also on real grit and I think they'd get walked though without someone like Gunnarsson or Tabb to babysit for them a bit (Karacan gets stuck in but he's still not physical enough to bully teams like Gunnarsson can).

A bit like my comments regarding Howard, Matejovsky is another I don't think is that great but should be ahead of Davies at the moment, but if it meant getting Kebe out of the team then I'd happily see your midfield run out more often than not.

You have to feel good about the direction of the club now. Financially solid, exciting young players making an impact, longest cup run in decades, the right manager in place. Now it is just a matter of how long we can keep this group together.

I am very proud and happy to be a Reading fan.

sorry to hi-jack this thread but, to avoid starting a new one and therefore being even more irritating, anybody remember the Burnley fan who came on our website a couple of months ago gloating about how Burnley were a superior version of Reading and therefore equipped to stay up? He wasn't out-and-out arrogant but he most definitely had an air of complacency about him. Time for a PM perhaps, or is that a tad premature?

The Burnley poster was, if I recall correctly, very grounded. He knew they were in for a battle for survival and didn't seem to be taking anything for granted as I recall it.

We'll have to wait a while yet to rub the smug Stoke fan's nose in it. Semi-final would be nice.

I did pm him to ask him if he would like to give us an update - but he didn't want to come out to play.

Would be good to check as I don't recall him being quite as "grounded" as you perhaps recall and as I bet he wishes he was now. (There was a slight whiff of patronising if I recall.)
