LUX T Rex, the Plymouth fan, is due a pm.

He wasn't far off on his preseason prediction though. He called us both being right in the middle of a relegation fight. We have been all season.

Was chatting to a Sheff Weds fan mate tonight. He seems to think that we are way too good to go down.

He thinks that in spite of all the players who have left we still have a far too good a squad to be down where we are.

He seemed to know Church, Kebe, Sigurdsson and Jem. He thought that both Church and Sigurdsson were very good and Kebe was very fast.

So other people realise we are a pretty good team. Things are looking up!

If we can came the same team for next season(unlikely i know) with a few new faces, we'll be within a good chance of pushing for the playoffs.

MCD is a God!

Clearly a casual eye is still cast in our direction. Though results haven't gone our way, it's still feasibly that an individuals attributes haven't been noticed. Perhaps we as supporters were too spoilt in the past.

papereyes Whatever happened to carlin20?

I did pm him to ask him if he would like to give us an update - but he didn't want to come out to play.

Bless.

I still think the finest point of that thread was finding that Portsmouth owed £30 million to an African bank.

Considering we'd just stuffed his team 5-0 I'd be very surprised if he didn't think we had a pretty decent side and were 'too good to go down'.

We have some decent players, we always have. The problem we've had is we don't have the better players around them to get the best out of them (like we used to have Sidwell, Little, Kitson and Doyle).

If all you have are average Championship players then it's not rocket science to think the best you're likely to see is an average Championship side unless you get on an exceptional run of form (like a Forest) or you have a few key individuals who can raise the bar a bit (like Ledley or Chopra at Cardiff).

the vast majority of that squad were considered average championship players or worse before we trounced the division

sidwell and kiston were in slightly higher regard, but thats about it isnt it?

I'm not really talking about their reputations, more their ability. Little was thought of as a very good winger in the division, but maybe one that had gone off the boil a bit at Burnley after getting rave reviews as the next Chris Waddle when he first came on the scene.

It certainly took the division by surprise when we turned out to be so good, but that's because, IMO, we had a few players who were good enough to get the best out of the other average players in the squad (none of them were really duffs to be fair though!).

Sidwell was, by then, widely known about. 4-4-2 Player outside the premiership, as an example.

But also, the point you make is incredibly similar to the one made by Hoop Blah

Schards#2 Can't see either leaving anytime soon so supporting Reading's going to be a whole lot duller and uninspiring than in recent years

So, was Schards 2 years ahead of his time? Barring a cup run in the 2nd half of the season, this is already shaping up to be the dullest season since 1998/99 which itself was the dullest since records began. Since then we have had a play off final defeat, 2 play off semi-final defeats, 2 promotions, 1 relegation, 2 last day near misses on the play-offs, 1 last day near miss on europe and our best post war FA Cup run. I guess we've become accustomed to excitement, but I can't find any reason at all to approach the rest of the season with anything other than a feeling of ambivalence.

Schards#2 I think we need to get used to mid table championship football at the very best until there is a sea change at this club.

Madejski - clearly, his heart is not in it to the extent it was previously. He would love to sell out but can't find a buyer. He will keep the club sound and stable but has no intention of investing further funds or trying to push the club forwards.

Coppell - if the spirit of the championship had survived, he would definately have been the right man for the job, but it hasn't. The chairman is not fully behind it anymore, many players have left to pursue their own self interest and many still here would like to leave. The golden team has long gone and we have to move on and build a new team. Coppell doesn't, IMHO, have the hunger to do this.

Whilst not being a member of the carpark squad, I applauded their actions as, at the time it was the right thing to do. Had we known that the spirit of the championship side was already totally dead, in hindsight, we should have let Coppell go and started afresh.

As for Madejski, there are some on here who would happily see us drift downwards whilst improving/maintaining our balance sheet in the belief that the rest of football will meltdown around us and we will emerge as one of the last men standing. They are rather like people who build nuclear bunkers in their back garden. Much as I admire and appreciete what Madejski has done, I don't see how the club can go forward with him at the helm and would now like to see someone new who wants to move things forward.

Can't see either leaving anytime soon so supporting Reading's going to be a whole lot duller and uninspiring than in recent years

The initial post, made some two years ago, in full.

Prophetic some might say.

Maybe now the RTG's will look at that and realize how sucked in they've been by the clubs propaganda. Being spoon-fed absolute fail for the last two years.

Wish I hadn't renewed my season ticket, wasted money...crap team to watch, best players sold..no light at the end of the tunnel.

How long before kebe's off, just to compile the state we are in as a club.
