Nigel Adkins has backed the fitness regime at Hogwood Park – following impressive second half showings against both Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the manager revealed that Royston Drenthe put in an incredible shift at the Reebok last weekend - covering over eleven kilometres.

“We believe we’ve got a good training programme here and if the players buy into it we can keep improving", said Adkins.

"Royston Drenthe got 11,000 meters under his belt in the game against Bolton, which is phenomenal, nobody would have thought he’d get anywhere near that when we first started in pre-season. He’s had to work hard. And great credit to him, he's trained every day and applied himself - it's down him.”

I think it's about average, but it's talking about an example of how far he's come which suggests he was no where near that when he came in.

I think anything over 10k is actually pretty good, only a few players will do that in most games.

But yeah, as above, he's obviously put in a lot of work to get himself where he is. He seems (touch wood) to have his head sorted....

He's not only doing over 11k, he's also over exerting hinself to get into great positions. He's not tiring and not moving. He wants to be on the ball and tackling. He's special and great mentality for us at the moment.

Is it my eyes or are those shorts a different blue to the non-hoops? The red in the shorts is awful as well.

Fatty will get there, in fact, for a bloke playing pro football, he isn't doing too bad so far...

This guy is a breath of fresh air, his general attitude is A+ at the mo for a player that likes his burgers

You only have to look at his stats, someone posted this earlier.

http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/720128 ... on-Reading

Match centre, summary.

The bloke is class. (clearly a difficult player to manage)

I have followed Reading since 88 (mean going to games, mainly away games), born in 72 but live in Newbury so started late but i never thought Reading would have players like Drenthe in our line up. When him and Kebe actually line up in the first 11 I think for the first time i will feel in awe of a Reading team.

Ffs he's got a stocky build that's all.

He looks awesome. But he could do with a goal soon. Set pieces could be better.
