Best young player I've ever seen in the hoops.

Thanks Gylfi, and the very best of luck to you. I'll be following your career with interest and pride.

(and quite a lot of regret).

He's a down-to-earth guy with a cool head, ambitious but modest and humble. He'll go far, and deserves all the success he'll get.

Dignified. A great player - his ability made him a ticking bomb to leave.

So according to Siggy (and I see no reason why he should lie) the club were open with him and left it to him to make the decision. He decided to go and apart from Hoffenheim being currently top of the Bundeslig, playing in Europe and giving him a much better contract I can't see why he decided to go.

So I now have to decide in which order to blame people.

I think 1)SJM, 2) Hammond, 3) BMcD 4) N Gibbs.

Should we 1) have ordered him to stay
2) said £6m is a derisory offer
3) kept the bid completely secret and hope he never found out
4)match the Bundeslig contract and give him German premiership pay and conditions and a promise we will get to Europe
5) treat your player honestly.

Beats me.

awesome player

his sheer quality can be summed up nicely simply by watching the two goals he scored for us this season.

th eboy will go far, and ill be gutted to not be able to watch him again this season.

Goodluck Gylfi.

I will always remember the way you took a penalty, as if you were passing to someone. You are world class, and I believe every word I read about you feeling emotional about leaving us, you wore the hoops with pride, and for that, I thank you.

will STILL never understand how you got more dip on your shots than even the likes of Ronaldo...

Look forward to seeing you at Barcelona in a few years.

Good luck to you Siggy.

Can't wait to buy the 2010/11 Hoffenheim home shirt with your name on the back, when it becomes available.

Good luck Gylfi!

Don't see the point in buying a Reading shirt - the money goes no where.

Let me help you with that then. Be honest with the player, tell him about the bid but that you've declined it because he is too important a player to the club. If there was a release clause in the contract, try to persuade him it is in his best interests to stay for a season but if he decides to go, reinvest the bulk of the money in replacing him and strengthening the squad.

Oh, you hijacked the thread BTW!

Back to topic. A great player, good role model and someone who will be sorely missed. Nothing against him whatsoever , thanks for all he did for us and good luck for the future.
