No. Marcus Evans, Keane at al, fought to keep him. Spurs offered £10 million. We are holding out for more.

Ah therein lies the difference. Good luck.

I'd like to think Madejski would've holded out too had we not had the release clause but who knows.

West Stand Flash Name a Championship side who could afford to turn down £7 Million for one of their players?? Enough said.

We turned down £10 million for Wickham from 'Arry Redknapp.

£10m? not sure what papers you read but news of the world is not very accurate.

It was never £10m

Forbury Lion Greg HaLOLford.

Have I missed something? Halford came to us from Colchester and we flogged him to Sunderland. ITFC is (wait for it) an Ipswich fan. :|

I rated Greg Halford when he was at Colchester and was hoping we'd sign him next!

Then I opened my eyes.... :o

Probably saw the "Keane" in his handle and figured he could rub that one in. I do remember the rumors about Keane going ape in Coppell's office after that deal started to stink...

Perhaps FL was using the remarkable sale of Halford as a counterpoint to a belief that ITFC was having a pop at us for selling too low.

It's the only possible explanation other than Colchester being near to Ipswich.

[edit : and PremAddict's explanation it the other only other possible explanation ...]

trueroyal1871 I know other fans think this as well, I work with a Spurs STH and an Aldershot STH and the first thing they said was that Madelski would keep most of the cash. Spurs fan thinks if we'd spent a bit more of the money at the end of our fisrt season in the prem we would still be there now.

And I think if we'd popped 3 more past derby we'd still be there now.

To this day, I can't stand the sight of Danny Murphy...

I'm not having a pop at all. Keane's renowned for buying crap at inflated prices WHEN AT SUNDERLAND.

It's different here. We can't afford to pay eight million quid for someone's reserve midfielder.

And Colchester is near Ipswich, albeit neither town particularly enjoys the fact...

FiNeRaIn "If he's not worth £6m now he certainly will be in a few years time.

I'm glad he won't be playing against us this season.

As for Reading, no doubt John Madejski will pocket that £6m all for himself like he usually does."

http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tn ... 2120309766

Sad, even opposition fans can see what some of our own fans don't.

Opposition fans can see the blatantly obvious.

So can the majority of Reading fans.

However a few of us don't like to admit it because we have our heads up Madejski's backside thinking he was an absolute saviour and firmly believe the biggest town and one of the most prosperous places in the UK with one of the longest histories in football should be playing in League 2 in front of 2000 fans and that anything more than that is a godsend which means we should be Madejski's personal bitch for ever.

There is not a non-Reading fan in the country who can't see what's going on.

ITFC_Keane I'm not having a pop at all.

I know, I'm sorry.
I was just struggling to find a Halford explanation when really I should be in bed refreshing my memory cells.
I'd completely forgotten it was Keane that bought him at Sunderland.

Nice to see other fans appreciate Gylfi's talent. He really is a class act... and we will thoroughly miss him.

He was a massive threat for us, especially set pieces, he could deliver a ball in the box, he could take a direct shot, he took corners... not to mention, I don't think I've ever seen a Reading player take a penalty so calmly.

So we should be on equal footing with the likes of Notts County, Bury or Barnsley?

Surely it's blatently obvious to everyone. We've made £7million and spent £50,000, brining in 2 pensioners.

Hendrie had a poor rating on my copy of Fifa 99 ffs.

Perhaps we should've negotiated harder for either no release clause or a higher one when giving him a new contract then! We got what the club agreed was the right price to sell him at.

I don't see how we can have had a £3m release clause if we ended up selling him for £6m+ though.

Because there were more than just the one club trying to buy him, the release clause was not the same as Hunts, RFC have learnt from that mistake.
