Did you text that into BBCRB last night or just pinch the idea?!

Having said that, great minds can think alike.

As Church came on last night, I turned to my daughter and said 'you watch, bet he scores with his first touch'. On the way home I heard the recording of the BBCRB commentary where Mick Gooding had also said Church would score with his first touch. Maybe there is a Geller effect afterall!

Quite a few people said the same thing about Church, more in hope than expectation.

my old man said "make a name for yourself" when Church came on, and bang in it went.

Never liked Cummings, thought he was useless last season...this season, it seems like we have a different player. He's been pretty impeccable this season, and good on him. I'm very happy to be cheering his name rather than shouting it with an element of disgust and anger.

mzungu_royal Only now for BMcD to do something with Marcus "I'm a quality LB" Williams. Either do something useful mate, or do one.

Not much wriggle room there for McD as Williams was his signing, unlike Kebe and Cummings.TBH with Harte and now probably Armstrong ahead of him in the pecking order, I can't see where his next start is comingn from.

Well subject to a loss of form, the answer is probably yes, he's the one with the shirt at the moment....

once BmcD has worked his magic- i have no doubt that williams will be a much improved player- just give people time before slagging off.
if kebe and cummings have aught us anything it should be that.

Y21_Royal
handbags_harris Best game in a Reading shirt by a long way but quite frankly he will have much sterner tests. The fact remains, though, that he was given a torrid time by Lloyd Dyer, taken to the cleaners on more than one occasion by the Palace left winger, was reasonably solid at Millwall, and was nowhere to be seen for Middlesbrough's first half goals last week. Patronisingly, his application is always second to very very few, but when it comes to the crunch he isn't good enough. As soon as Griffin is fit again, Cummings should make way.

I think you're being a little harsh on him there Handbags. Against Leicester he played his first game in nearly a year and out of position.

He's one of the new breed of RBs ala Glen Johnson. He's main threat is attacking from deep, something we saw very little of last year. As his confidence increases, this will get only get better and more effective. The defensive side of his game clearly still needs work but lets not forget that he's still young and very inexperienced. In a position as technical as full back you need games to improve and I think we're seeing that.

One for the future and I hope he will prove to be the long term option for us

Actually he was bloody good at the back last night - Remember this improvement has literally been game by game has hes gained confidence!

v Leics - Encouraging but still quite poor -probably gave away a pen that the ref missed.
v Palace - Beaten by the winger but bit more solid
v millwall - mostly Solid
v boro - Average
v Barnsley - Decent
v Ipswich - Awesome

Hes finally reached a level that no one could replace him

Brian McD said yesterday that the improvment had come from Cummings concentrating on doing the basics well again and then building on that.

I think some of the praise for his defending is a little bit over the top after yesterday. He had a good game but it was my no means faultless. On a few occasions he over committed himself and gave away a few free kicks, especially in the first half, against Townsend. What was good to see was that he had the confidence to continue chasing and to make big tackles like that one at the end

I think that was a fair summary Y21.
It was more his crunching foul for which he was booked that has now endeared him more to the fans because his strength in the tackle has so far been our biggest concern as well as some poor positional play.
IMHO the jury is still out but he is an athletic lad who has time on his side to come good.

NO,
COMPARED TO THE SLAGGING HE GOT ON HERE FOR ONE BAD GAME AGAINST A WINGER WHO HAD SHREDDED EVERY fb WE EVER PUT IN FRONT OF HIM, AND THE COMMENTS ABOUT HOW HE WOULD NEVER MAKE IT AT ANY LEVEL LET ALONE THIS ONE, MEAN THAT THE JURY IS BACK, HAS RETURNED A VERDICT, AND GONE HOME.

He's definitely looking better, but he still looks quite nervous to me. You never really see him commit forward properly, he always looks a bit hesitant. Its a shame because he's obviously got some pace, and to be fair to the lad some of the crosses he's made in the last few games have been very good. I really hope he can push on because I think he has the potential to be a very good attacking full back.

Defensively he needs to work on his positioning and knowing when to get close and went to stand off, but in all fairness he does seem to be improving game by game.
