6 foot plus defensive midfielder who can play at the back.

Didn't we have one of those?

Terminal Boardom
Tony Le Mesmer On the whole i hate the loan system and having loan Players at the club.

any self respecting football club should be buying or creating its own talent, not scrounging other clubs cast offs.

After all, none of our players have ever benefitted from going out on loan

FWIW loans should be restricted to U21s.

This kind of deal is a different matter completely. Who wants to watch another clubs player (not good enough for a championship team) keep a Reading player out the team.

If we were crippled with injuries and were desparate fair enough, but we're not. Total joke signing.

Reading Fans: We need to sign some players.

The Club: We've signed a player.......

Reading Fans: Joke of a signing.

PREDICTABLE.

He is a different type of player to what we currently have. On what I remember I would liken him to someone like Cisse.

With Tabb coming off injured on Saturday and generally struggling for fitness and Howard missing from the squad on Saturday, perhaps through injury maybe McD felt we needed to bring in a midfielder.

Oh and never complain when Reading make a signing. They don't come around too often.

Suggests to me that maybe Howard/Tabb/Gunnar might be out for a while. Brian has always said he only wants to loan players that he has the realistic chance to sign on a permanent basis and this fits that description.

Best chance scenario he flourishes here and we have the 'general' we've been after and worst case he's cr*p sits on the bench and goes back to QPR, can only see this as a good thing tbf.

The likes of Hahnemann, Little, Williams and Bikey initially came to the club on loan so it's a policy that has worked in the past and enables us to have the financial flexibility to make other moves in January.

see him as a DM to allow karacan more freedom in the midfield 3

Leigertwood plodding around, Kebe running into things, and Karacan bossing the entire middle of the park?

*Shudder*.

LOL at kebe running into things, you can oxf*rd off unless you mean running into a hatful of goals, or a great spell of form.

no, kebe in the front 3 with long and hunt
liegertwood, karacan,tabb/howard in the midfield

This season he's competing with people like Taraabt and Faurlin and has played 1 (9) so he's not unfit

but he started 44 (1) games last season, so must be reasonably solid.

40 Appearances in the Championship last season

Must admit I'd never heard or noticed the name before today.

Tredder he can drift in and out of games quite a lot

Just what we need then....a non-scoring defensive midfielder, who drifts in and out of games

First they are a side spending a LOT of money and have a very, VERY good squad, have only let in 8 measly goals in 18 games.

What current RFC player would get in that side? Answer none (except Shane of course, to replace Taraabt)... Kebe might have a chance.

Tabb was Coventry's until we bought him. Unless you want only Youth System players...

Remember him shitting all over us at the mad stad one game. Strong physical presence in the middle of the park, just what we've been crying out for IMHO.

An interesting loan signing that may signal the end of Howard's run in midfield.

Email from a QPR fan:

Top man. Loyal servant. Has a rasping right foot.

But...

His nickname is, imaginatively, ‘Legs’ and his, I’m afraid to say, have gone.

I guess that's where the "drifts in and out of games" thing comes from. When he puts in a shift we'll see something, but if he can't be arsed/can't move quick enough then we'll struggle. I'm sure McDermott has told him there's a permanent contract on the table if he plays well (as has been suggested in the press), so we may see something decent out of him...

And on the loan thing, I agree with McDermott's approach - good under-21 players that probably won't join us but gives youth a chance (Bertrand) or players who we may more than likely sign if they turn out how we expect them to when we get to a transfer window (Griffin, Leigertwood, hopefully Zurab). The loans I don't agree with is the "don't have a chance of joining full time but looking for match fitness or something to do rather than learning what professional football is about (Bellamy etc).

Strangest addition to the squad since Brain took over.

According to QPR fans he is off form and cannot pass. Just what we need then!!

All I can think is that we have players on the way out or undeclared injuries in central mid.

Brian obviously sees something in him and it's a very low risk move. Another option in midfield which arguably we need. Overall, I'm happy with the signing.

To follow Croydon's lead and quote a QPR-supporting m8:

He can be good on his day, excellent, but that is rare. Most of the time he looks slow, hence the nickname 'Legweight' LOL

EEK Still, McD doesn't do much without good reason. Time will tell and in Brian we trust, etc.

Wycombe Royal
cmonurz Clearly signed with something in mind, just confused as to what.

The "midfield general" that some have been saying we need?

ive been saying we need one of these since sidders left!!!

someone who protects our back four and lets jem do his thing further up the park... and lets face it if it stops howard from ever playing again i think a fair few of us will be pleased!

I am pleased but not excited by this - sounds like Cisse.... If Brynn isn't going to feature any more then a DM to release Jem forward is no bad thing. Assume this is a loan with a view to a perm signing in Jan, hence BM's comments last week and also what he said today about being surprised we were able to sign him.

If he turns out to be hoppeless, he can go back in jan and we can get someone else....
